Subject: Bungie's Tasteful Neutrality - RELEVANT POST Sgt. Johnson

"Bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.

I agree only some with Spartan 021. Personally, Sgt. Johnson is my favorite character in all of Halo. Sure, he has good game lines, but SO WHAT if he says racial stuff? Some of it is funny and I'm sure Bungie(My God) wouldn't mean that against anyone if they used it in their game.

Who Cares when ANYBODY joined Bungie?

I've been on the 7th Column since 2002, but had to re-assign my passport for some stupid reason this year during the change-over to the new Bungie.Net. The passport conversion was ok, but I don't understand why they deleted my LOGIN. I went to Montana for 2 months and was inactive right before the passport thing, but I didnt think that would have my name deleted. Now Everyone looks at the "Member Since" title and automaticly assume that people who haven't been around that long are newbs, or new bungie fans. I've been playing Halo on Xbox since the Xbox Launch, and Halo PC/CE for a while now

Making comments about sombody's stance in the colum is un-nessecary. I know people who have never set foot on these forums who could probably school most of you in Halo.

In other words, Drop the arrogance. Stop acting like little immature kids! Grow up or get out!

Sarge is your stereotypical black movie military leader. It's not like Bungie broke any molds when they made him.

Actually, what he was trying to say in his post is that Sarge didn't make any racial slurs.

Spartan 021, I understand that you are upset that your thread wasn't developed in the way you expected, but really, what did you expect? I mean really, all that people can reply is that they agree, or comment on their favourite comedian or whatever. This is what has basically made up most of the replies you didn't get all wound up about (I think. You might have got upset from these as well). What else can anybody say? There isn't much that reasonable people would argue with in the post, and there isn't much to expand on except for boring "Yes, you are right" posts without substance.

I'm not trying to tell you to make your posts shorter, and without substance, for fear of people thinking that you've covered everything and thus limiting discussion. Far from it - there will almost always be some kind of discussion here (even if it's just somebody telling you you're on the wrong forum ;) ). I'm just pointing out that this forum is just a place to hang out and have a good time, so don't get annoyed if somebody hijacks your thread (with benevolent intentions of course - if somebody is genuinely being a knob then you have every right to get pissed off). Your little flame war here brewed out of basically nothing. So lighten up, and stop taking it so personally.

We're all here to have a good time, right? So let's keep some civil fingers on our keyboards, OK? :)

About National Security...the movie wasn't so bad, granted there were some lame sterotypes in there but he was trying to be funny..and if some guy in halo said some kind of slightly sterotypical thing as a joke it would be funny, as long as it was a joke...it's context really, I'm black (half at least) and when someone tells a racist joke I don't get offended ecause its a joke

Now that is one very thought out and well said reply. You should all take after this fine forum member. And very good topic Spartan021, I do agree with you, especially about the movie National Security...it is too bad that some people on this forum cannot behave properly and actually think about what they are posting.

It does not matter who they look like, how long they have been on this forum, how old they are, or how good at games they are - its about their maturity level. Apparently, some of us are still in Kindergarten eating glue.

Sarge is also my favorite character in the game (can't you tell by my name lol). But, I have a theory about him. I think that he is 100% invincible, well, in a way. At the end of Halo, (on Legendary) you get to see him get totally wasted, yet he's back alive and well in Halo 2. Another time, I was in the cafeteria on the PoA, and I saw Sarge get killed by an elite. I walked over to the other side of the room, and, right there, totally fine, was Sgt. A Johnson. My theory is that every time he "dies" he has the ability to take over someone else's body (kind of like the agents in the Matrix). lol

By the way, I also totally agree with you Spartan 021.

There are so many movies, shows, books and comedians that stereotype different races, cultures etc. and in most occasions they are of that race and do it for a laugh. If they knew that their jokes would serious offend someone (mostly because they have no sence of humour) then they wouldn't talk or act that way for a joke. "National Security" was a movie and it was supposed to be to funny and stereotypical because it was a comedy movie. To make the audience like the movie they have to make them laugh, and in order to do that they may have to offend one or two of the hundreds of viewers in the process.

Now that this thread actually looks like it might be getting back on topic: I'm surprised that no one has drawn a connection between Sarge and R. Lee Ermey . Or, more importantly Gunnery Sergeant Hartman

He has got some of the best quotes EVAR

Some of those links contain pretty foul language. Mr. Hartman is, after all, a Gunnery Sergeant in the US Marine Corps. Just a warning for some of our younger visitors.

My point has NOTHING AGAINST BLACK PEOPLE or ANY RACE for that matter - .

Howdy.

One point I would like to make is this: There is only one race of people on this Earth. Thats The Human Race.

I think its fairly obvious (unless its not) that Sarge is based off of the one in Aliens, and they are both equally cool. Oh and i dont relly like Chris Rock either.

Not something like "Stupid CRACKA, aim fo' dem ALIEN -blam!--asses!!!" or some heavy, stereotypical, curse-filled ebonics-related crap.

Well, what do you expect? Halo takes place in the future.
