Hey I recently installed Halo: CE on my new computer and everytime I try to play it, I'm required to insert the disc too. Now I might be remembering this wrong, but I could have sworn that before when I played it, as long as it was installed, I didn't have to have the disc in to play it. Am I remembering wrong or is there some way to play it without the disc and I'm just not doing it right?

Why would you want to talk to the supernatural? Especially the malevolent ones?!?

A quick test (to the demise of several grunts and elites) confirms that you don't have to have the disc in to play.

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Do you have the latest patches installed? Patch 1.08 removed the disc check.

Wow, totally wrong.

Locate and run haloupdate.exe inside your installation directory. Make sure when you run it that you right click and "run as administrator" if on Windows Vista or Windows 7.

This works with both Halo PC and Halo CE (Custom Edition).

I don't have it in my installation directory, do I have to get it manually?

Have you tried playing multiplayer? You should startup Halo and select multiplayer. It will search for the latest update which is v1.09. Or you can download it manually. See this thread to download the Halo Combat Evolved PC patch(the thread is at the top of this forum by the way): http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspxpostID=38613159
