Highly unlikely.

To give an idea, I haven't had antivirus nor a firewall for ages, and never experience problems...

Please try to remember - did you by chance shut down your pc while in the middle of Halo? that can definately mess it up. your hard drive can create some errors if that happens, and you end up with some anomalies [such as that which you are describing].

If it's discreet enough...I guess my problem is the constant reformats make it a pain, and McAfee always seemed to slow down my system and send me alerts every freakin' second! Every once and a while I downloaded it, updated, and ran it - maybe firefox has been my saving grace, since most target IE.

I'll check it out, though.

----Back to that topic----

If you were loading a map, saving anything, you could easily create a few anomalies on your drive. I'm just wondering if he did anything, anything at all, before or after playing and then shutting down...

naw, MOST target Windows. get Linux!

But back on subject. dude, we need more info if we're going to help you.

1. what does it say, if anything, when you try to run halo?

2. what does it say or do, if anything, when you try to reinstall or uninstall Halo?

if you can't remember what you were playing with, maybe we can reverse engineer a fix. But we need more info than just "My halo is -BLAM-ing up!" The only time I've ever seen halo do "nothing" was when I start up with ZA firewall on. there should be a window popping up saying "Error: Blam 01 to registry invaild" or "your video card is known to cause problems with halo; shutting down." Something!

Oh, and SDL, get Norton. $30 bucks for a year of anti virus at Wally world.

Good advice...if you can afford a separate computer reserved for gaming only. Some, if not many, of us use the same computer for gaming and other tasks. All of your precious digital photos and other files are not worth shutting down protection just because you are obsessed about having the best performance in gaming.

If you do use a separate firewall such as norton or zone-alarm, turn off windows' built in firewall. It get's annoying when you get an alert from both windows' firewall and norton firewall when you have new software connecting to the internet.

Also, turn off Remote Desktop and Remote Assistance if you don't use them often. You are just a sitting duck with these activated.
