In an interview with Microsoft Game Studios' Ryan Crosby on Joystiq.com, a sequel to Halo 3: ODST would be considered if fan and media reception exceeds expectations, and the need arises for a follow-up. Despite that, there are no current plans for a sequel, despite the hints of an "ODST 2" during the Epilogue cinematic.

Don't know if this is going to be made, but maybe 343 Industries could consider it. It could be a test to see if they can make a Halo game that is better than the previous, since Halo 3: ODST isn't considered that great because of its short campaign and other reasons (depending on the person).
I doubt fan and media reception exceeded expectations, but I do think the need would arouse for a sequel. Bungie tested the transition from previous games to a new, "better" game with a test subject, ODST. ODST introduced many aspects we see in Reach, such as Firefight, single wielding, health packs, etc. Maybe 343 Industries could do the same except in their case, they could make a second ODST game to test and see if the fans would like it, then they could decide how to do Halo 4, which I'm sure they will eventually end up making.
This wouldn't just be a chance for 343 Industries to prove themselves worthy of continuing the FPS Halo Series to die hard fans, but also test how they could continue the series and introduce new experiences to the player by using a test, ODST 2. This also be a chance for the side story we know as ODST to get redemption, and show players what would of happened if the original game had more time and was originally designed to be a full game from the start of it's development.
I personally would love to see a second ODST because the ODST experience showed us a story from a different view, not just being a invincible super soldier who was the last of the Spartans, but an emotional story of a silent, vulnerable Orbital Drop Shock Trooper trying to find his squad members.
Think of how we could get more this time around, maybe more Firefight maps, more Campaign levels, maybe even DLC. We could learn about Buck and Dare's relationship, about that mysterious epilogue that plays when you finish on Legendary, etc. I'm sure if the first one was an emotional story of a group of ODSTs, I bet the second can also be one.
ODST also brought new things to Halo gameplay wise, such as characters, weapons, enemies, and just a whole new story. I want to learn more about what happened during the Covenant's glassing of New Mombasa from this perspective of a ODST who had more of a story to tell about it then John 117.
I post this on Bungie.net not to alert Bungie of something they are not involved with, but to alert Halo fans of something they are involved with.
Even though this forum is dead except for those asking for help with the game and it's achievements, I hope some who still visit the grave known as the ODST Forum see this thread.
