Everyone knows the controversy concerning the number of people able to play on live/system link. The general consenus is it would be in the area of 32 people for Live and/or System link, but in the new Game Informer that I'm sure everyone has heard about it says something different. On the first page of the Halo 2 article, in the top left corner, it has a brief synopsis of the game. For those of you who don't have it, it says:

XBOX
> STYLE 1 TO 4-PLAYER ACTION (UP TO 16-PLAYER
VIA XBOX LIVE OR SYSTEM LINK) >PUBLISHER
MICROSOFT > DEVELOPER BUNGIE RELEASE FALL

So who do you think is mistaken, the magazine or the people?

The rumor that it would support 32 players was just a rumor. The highest number Bungie has ever said themselves was 12. So I'd be happy with 16, I don't think that we'll ever see much more than that with XBL. At least not with the current hardware.

Hmm, I was thinking there was going to be at least 32-player system link.

Source? They never said anything like this, to my knowledge

Err...I don't remember exactly, I'll look for it though. It's either the Edge, EGM, OXM, or another interview. But it's REALLY old, so it's proably not true anymore. They said they were shooting for at least 12 online. But I'm sure it will AT LEAST be 16. It's kind of the Live standard.

They said the phrase "shooting for" in the EGM of 2002.

But it's REALLY old, so it's proably not true anymore

Remember, Bungie promises an online experience that will "change the way people play online forever"; how could they achieve this by doing what has already been done?

And although adding more players isn't exactly the way to do this, I'm confident 16 players will not be the max...

...but we'll see...

Dude, if it is more than 16, it'll suck. There's already lag in games with only 12 on XBL. If they're gonna have 32, they better have some damn good netcode.

Also, I don't really think that 32 players fits Halo's gameplay. Halo is all about being a good tactician, and that's just not what happens with that many people....it would be pure chaos. I only want 16, but 32 COULD be cool. We'll just have to wait and see.
