Please don't flame me for how stupid I am, but I have never used this before. WHat is it exactly, is it system link, or can you link locally? Does it cost anything? Help?

System Link is where you link up two to four xboxes via a link cable (10 bucks) or a hub (50 bucks) it doesn't cost money. You just link and go.

you connect one ethernet cable from one xbox and put it directly in to another xbox, or into a hub which will be connected to all of the other xboxes, doesn't cost a thing except for the cables and if its more than 2 xboxes you need to buy a hub for about 40 bucks

my aim sn is NeedzABetterSN if you have any more questions

Correction, you cannot simply connect an ethernet cable between two xboxes, it needs to be a crossover cable. A regular ethernet cable would not work unless used through a hub or router/switch.

I made the mistake of buying the wrong cable, the one you need is RJ-45 crossover (not patch)

Yep that's right, or you can always trust the Xbox System Link cable. That, however, is more expensive.
