host is actually the easiest person in the game to kill with shooting (not melee that's a different story) he just see's everything that tiny but earlier and thats where his advantage is. and trust me i know this is true im Australian and understanding the host is just something you just learn to do when you have constant yellowbar.

no

OP- the Host system wouldn't be quite as bad if the weapons were hitscan. They've added hitscan capabilities to the DMR and pistol in Reach, so they've pretty much fixed Swat.

ok im just gonna guess that your american yes? you don't see what im talking about properly because you basically get green bar every single game you play, i play on yellowbar nearly every game and trust me what im saying is true, shots register more on the host than on people who aren't

I'm an American with a horrible connection. I play about half my games on yellow/red bar. The host is always the one who eats the most bullets, because it's him that you can't connect to properly(hence the yellowbar). He's not recieving the packets you're sending properly, so naturally the bullets won't be as effective.

I'm Australian, you don't know what you're talking about.

If you play yellowbar like you claim... You would know it's easier to kill the hosts teammates then it is to kill the host.

you're obviously very stupid if you think the weapons not being hitscan has anything to do with host advantage.

try aiming properly and leading your shots a little at a distance =]

Wow NON-HITSCAN WEAPONS hit earlier giving host an advantage.

In reach hitscan hits at the same time.

Don't be dumb afuzzykitten541...

  • 08.07.2010 12:18 AM PDT

ok, explain how the weapons being hitscan would remove the host advantage? if you both aim for what should be a headshot, then it will be a headshot. on both hit systems. the only difference is with this one you have to compensate for distance from target and target moving. it's not like the host will be in enough of a different place to avoid being killed by a well placed shot, and if there is lag with the hitscan system, the person who got killed can go back in theater and watch the bullets that "killed" them miss

bungie had a very long article about this issue back when halo 3 first came out do yourself a favor and read it

all bullets take the same amount of time to reach their target. being host doesn't make your bullets travel faster.

host has nothing to do with hitting your opponent, but your connection speed does because it determines the pkt/s or packets per second. the higher ammount of pkt/s the better chance you have of hitting opponents

Sorry Team Snipes, but I must say you're wrong. Bungie covered this in the Battle Rifle article. The Host has a disadvantage when it comes to shots. He is easier to hit (do to some network thing it explained) and that when he shoots at you, it's always a little off. It makes it to where the host can dodge a bullet, however, will still get hit, even though he dodged it.

BUNGIE STATED THIS. THEY CREATED THIS GAME AND TESTED IT FOR EXTENSIVE TIMES. THEY HAVE SEEN AND CREATED THE CODE OF THIS GAME. YOU HAVE NOT.

That's a statement for everyone who would like to disagree and argue with the geniuses that designed the game and spent hours upon hours testing it. In fact, they've probably played it more in the development stage than any fan since it's release. They'd know.

This was fixed in Halo 3.

I have noticed that occasionally some people in Team Swat will take more hits than others. However, this is not just the host I have noticed this on, unless two people are hosting at the same time. It is a lag issue in general. And you can call it an aiming problem, but when you are both idle, looking at the head, and one shoots first, and lives, and the other shoots and dies, it's undeniable. Especially when you go into theater just to make sure.

Personally, it might only be the host this happens on. Maybe I am wrong. Maybe when they fixed the host's disadvantage, the unintentionally gave him a new advantage (in the circumstances of bad connection.)

but yes, I've noticed it, but I think the host thing is irrelevant.

And for your argument with afuzzykitten541, Team Snipes, the article stated that at a distance, you must lead your target for the Battle Rifle to be effective. This was intentional to make the Battle Rifle less over powered, in that it can only travel so far per frame and is no longer a hitscan weapon, making the shot not instant at a distance, and making the shot take longer to hit the farther the target is.

Not saying you disagreed to that, as you didn't. I'm clarifying the validity of that comment.

They hit first 3/4 of the time and even if the other guy shot at the same time his bullets don't count, they don't hit k?

Team swat opponents absorb more damage because the health modifier is at 150-200 percent

  • 08.07.2010 12:35 AM PDT

Oh I know this. I checked the settings for SWAT before. I am saying that there are instances when you have bad connection in which your opponent will not die as quickly as you. Note I both said you shot eachother in the head once (with a BR, this is enough to die even with the health bonus) yet only one of you died, even when you shot them first. It's a lag thing, and I think we can all (or most of us at least) agree we've experienced it.

Welcome to my world, this is one reason why I don't play much online plus Humans tend to exploit the host advantage by Cheating, my tolerance is practically Zero.
