How come in mostly every cutscene, Master Chief holds the Assault Rifle? He even has it when you don't.

The game most likely just didn't have the capacity for every weapon possibility to be programmed into each frame of each cutscene.

-Sic transit gloria mundi

The cutscenes were "pre-recorded," and many of them were anitmation play backs, meaning Joseph Staten used the engine to tell the character to go there, do this, go there, do that and the camera observed this. A fun way to observe this in action is the ending assualt on the control room cutscene. Hit the switch to open the final door into the control room, and then quickly get into a ghost and ram the door. If you do it right, the ghost will run through the door and kill Master Chief in the cutscene, because animation playback is used in this cinematic, the cutscene will continue without the chief.

But anyway, It would have been far too much work to make a duplicate cutscene for every possible weapon in the game.

Also, all of it was done by hand, so there was no Mocap involved.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

As the others said, pre-recorded cut-scenes. They look better than the ones that are not.

Have posted this before but, a kind of cool aside to the cutscene thing: Got a Banshee near the control room, and it was in the cutscene. Thought this was pretty swell, so I tried to get two Banshees up in there. Sure enough, there were two represented in the cutscene. Yikes.
