Ok so, even though we may have read all three books, beaten the game countless times over, and gone over any and every article or update with any info on the plot and settings in halo. But one thing i don't think many have caught on to, and wondered about (unless I'm mistaken) is one detail in the Spartan program. The Spartans like MC, Kelly, Will, Linda, etc, as we know them, are technically SPARTAN II's (II as in the roman numeral for 2). so then where does the 2 come from? were there spartans before MC and the like? was it a "failed" batch that's under the highest classification and cover-up? Or maybe just because of the historical spartans, and naming the project Spartan II was just because they are the "next generation", so to speak, of spartans, after those from history?

they say in the book there were spartans before the spartan II's, no one knew about it though because it was top secret, the only reason the public knew about the spartan II's was to boost the moral of the unsc. but there were spartans years before the spartan II project

I'm pretty sure it's that they're the "next generation" of Spartans. It's the only thing that really makes sense, otherwise they'd have a good idea of how things would happen and have a better idea of the risks involved with the training.

They are called Spartan IIs because Spartan I is a cute cuddly city state in ancient greece in the peleponesis. Good Job! You know....spartans?

What i really want to know about is the spartan III project. If mendez went to train the SIII's like 20 years ago (remember, he left after SII's agumentation or somethin like that in FoR), then wouldnt the SIII's be ready by now on earth?? does this mean that we will fight alongside 20 somethin year olds that are better than us?? Does Dr. Halsey flying off of the Coveneant cruiser have SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE SIII's????? OH MY GOD RAMPANT SPECUALTION!!!!!!!!!!!??????

In the fall of reach it said that they tried to put regular humans in the battle suits but it was to heavy and killed them(project spartan), then so they made more stonger, faster humans known as the spartans to use the battle suits(project Spartan ll)
im pretty sure thats what it said in the book

There was Spartans but the project failed. I dont remember why it failed but I know it did. Then there was Spartan II's and they had a better sucess rate.
