I Retired Gears of War 2, Sold it to buy Halo 3. And I have not had this much fun playing Video Games in a long time :)
Now that Halo Reach is out. My life has never been better.
Thanks Bungie.

The Forerunners fired all of the rings because the flood was eating up the entire galaxy...

That being said, I find it hard to believe that the flood was concentrated in just in the blast radius of the new halo.

1. High Charity was what you blew up at the end of "Cortana." As far as I know, that was crashed on the Ark, blowing up at the end of the game.

2. I don't know.

3. All the flood on Earth were apparently killed when the Elites "glassed half a continent" according to Lord Hood.

Also, saying that the Chief "defeated" the Flood could relate to the situation at hand, stopping the invasion of Earth without destroying all sentient life, rescuing Cortana, and destroying the Ark (a huge threat to said sentient life) as well as toasted a large quantity of Flood, including a Gravemind. I would say that's significant, you know?

As for whether the Flood are completely wiped out, I don't think that's the kind of thing that can ever be said for certain. "...defeat is simply the addition of time, to a sentence I never deserved..."

Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach!

the flood are all over the universe being held in other halos, high charity hit near New mombasa, blew up city to destroy them, ark didnt kill all flood, only flood in its vicinity

"It is not a goal, but a process. The process of creating the perfect world."

The Halo didn't even kill all the Flood on the Ark unless it went completely supernova and vaporized both stations. What it did do it kill the local gravemind (individual flood are too simple to be wiped out by halo, but more complex versions are vulnerable), which left the flood really stupid, and also closed the portal to Earth, sealing any surviving flood to starve away on the ruins of the Ark outside the galaxy. As for the rest of the flood, they all went into hibernation after their complex forms were wiped out by the halo array 100,000 (that's right, right? years ago, and they slumber away in Forerunner facilities, waiting for hosts to appear.
