So I have been playing this game for a couple years now, and I do love it! But... here is where the issue lies. There are so many modders and laggers in this game. I can't go online and play because there are people cheating constantly. something has to be done about this, because it has come to the point where I will refuse to buy Halo Reach and renew my Xbox live subscription if this doesn't get under control. I have several friends that say the same thing, because what is the point?

Noone will know anything about modding/cheating in reach until it hits. You might want to give it a play before making your decision to quit or not.

What exactly is a ''lagger'' though? somebody with a poor connection? I'm not sure what Bungie can do about that exactly.

Leader of Alls Requiem web development and Co-aid to game development.

I'm sure there will alays be people who will try their best to break EVERY game they get their hands on, however, Bungie has exceptionaly strong source code, and has completely stripped and rebuilt the engine. I highly doubt we shall see any real problems like the MW2 hacks and virus tags that are still being done. As for the lag, all multiplayer games have latency based on the distance from peer to peer, its the only real downside, but you can never eliminate this.

If XBL would install something like CSF "lagging" would be solved. I don't understand why you would give anyone basic READ and WRITE authentication to actually submit attacks, the input in .htaccess / CSF is simple, DENY from ALL.

Nobody should get READ and WRITE access (including Jtags) I don't get why we can't just use $user $password and $useragent to protect this. Useragent would take years or decades to brute-force and even if you do a session hijack, its an auth page, you won't get far ]:

I also maintain that Chrome is weaksauce, and IE9 is fast and works very well

You may be confusing cheaters with foreigners. I live in New Zealand and sometimes get host while I'm playing with other friends from near by. Occasionally, when I'm host, the opposing team has players from far away countries, so they don't have the greatest connections. After winning those games we are often accused of cheating, when it's really not our fault.

Yes there are players who manipulate the system by forcing their friends host (bridging) and some who go to the lengths of standbying, but remember that not all laggy games are due to cheaters.

Sometimes the host may even have somebody using a computer at their house, which could cause quite bad lag for other players in the game. It's not intentional and could be another cause of the laggy games that you come across.

As for Reach, you might like to read this recent interview. Or more specifically, from that interview, "We've absolutely overhauled the entire networking layer, so the online multiplayer experience in general should be significantly better than in Halo 3."

Their are also the preferences that you will have the ability to set in Reach such as language, locale and connection speed. You should be able to set your preferences so that you find other players who are in the same country as you, which will greatly reduce the amount of laggy games you come across.

For the people who are actually cheating, the Banhammer in Reach has been improved too (and is always being improved and updated). That is the last line of defense against cheaters and I'm sure it will work well.

With the improvements made to Reach you shouldn't have to worry about the laggy games, or at least not as much. For the laggy games that you do come across; they won't be as bad as they are in Halo 3 (thanks to the improved networking code and hitscan).

So go ahead, buy Reach and renew your subscription because improvements have been made. Or at least try it before you buy it.

But this doesn't stop DDoSing, IP's can be obtained quite easily, and even if you have a FW installed, too many packets / SYN packets being sent could cause force shutdown @ .dll ];
