That sounds like the Timesplitters 2 game-type Assault. You have to control certain objectives before you can move on to other, more important, areas of opportunity.
Instead of single-flag CTF, it should be how Timesplitters does it. In Halo's case, you would 1. secure the grav life; 2. control the hanger; 3. control the bridge. Each time you compelted a stage, your spawn points would change. For instance you would start at normal starting point for spartans, and at grav lift for Cov. (closer of course, since it's a MP map). Then when they secured it, Spartans spawned at the inside of the ship (in that square room) and Cov. would start in the hanger (again, closer since it's a MP map). Afterwards, when Spartans take the hanger, they spawn there, while the Cov. spawn at the bridge (once again, closer since it is MP map). Once the Spartans control the bridge, game over. The Spartans would be timed, and if they don't complete the objectives in X amount of time, then the Cov. win the match. You could switch sides afterwards I guess, but the game takes a while.
And btw, this would be an AWESOME idea for Halo 2. Good thinking.
