Go Big or Go Home.

I have an Xbox 360 Pro system and have the Halo 3 disk but i decided to download it(for -blam!-s and giggles), but when i went to play it after it downloaded, it said i needed the disk? Now i thought this was the point of downloading it, so you could play disk-free. Any comments, all are appreciated.

Thanks!

Don't install it to your hard drive

No. Installing it just means it runs from the harddrive. You still need the disk, yeah.
Don't install it.

I am assuming you meant you installed it from the disc and not stupidly rebought it from the Marketplace for $30, right?

If I am right, you still need the disc to play installed games. The point of installing is that the disc no longer spins when the game is played. This saves wear and tear on the disc. Most games also load faster (by a little bit) from the hard drive as opposed to the disc, but the original Halo 3 is not one of these. It actually loads a little bit slower which is why people will tell you not to install it like the guy above me. Don't listen as it really does not matter and installing it will still save you wear and tear on the disc and money in the long run if you play the game enough.

If you install a game from the disk, you'll always need the disk to start the game. If you download and install a game from the martketplace, you won't need the disk.

You COULD install it and make it so you don't need the disc if you buy it from the Marketplace, but I wouldn't recommend that.

The 360 just makes you need the disc because otherwise you could just install it to your 360 and then pass it around to be installed by all your friends and nobody would ever have to buy a game again.
