I am assuming you meant you installed it from the disc and not stupidly rebought it from the Marketplace for $30, right?
If I am right, you still need the disc to play installed games. The point of installing is that the disc no longer spins when the game is played. This saves wear and tear on the disc. Most games also load faster (by a little bit) from the hard drive as opposed to the disc, but the original Halo 3 is not one of these. It actually loads a little bit slower which is why people will tell you not to install it like the guy above me. Don't listen as it really does not matter and installing it will still save you wear and tear on the disc and money in the long run if you play the game enough.
