Heheh, while I don't condone hatred of systems, the PS2 sure as hell isn't using the N64's graphics chip. Maybe they're made by the same company, but they sure as hell aren't the same - and either way, the PS2's big-selling games sell on the premise of graphics-pimping and stupidity of the average gamer.
The 'average gamer' is an idiot - they're 29 years old and like the explosions and the boobies more than the storyline or gameplay. Sure, if a game with a storyline and gameplay has explosions and boobies, they'll enjoy it, but for different reasons than the rest of us.
We sell a lot of PlayStations where I work. A lot. Because the average idiot doesn't think video games and think XBox, or GameCube, they think PlayStation. I don't know how Sony did it, even through 'PlayStation' is Nintendo's word (ask me, unless you're interested, I'm not going into that) - but, parents, idiots, old people, little kids, they always remember PlayStations. My mom "You've been on that PlayStation all night, haven't you?" Me: "It's an XBox mom.", some old guy who came into Zellers looking for a video game: "Whats... uh, video game-thing.. play, yes, PlayStation! Play.. Yeah, that's what his gamey thinger was, gimme one of those."
For some reason it's the name that sticks.. I don't own a PS or a PS2, and while I admire their success, I personally prefer Nintendo. I've got an XBox because Bungie is tied for best game-makers in my books with Miyamoto, Rare, and Blizzard - and Halo is a game for the ages.
