The Halo movie thread wasn't stickied until Sketch posted the "Great Hollywood Journey" update... which really made it official.
Actually, I made and stickied that thread about a year ago. However, that was an entirely different situation - it was more a question of "Should there be a Halo movie?"; most of the Halo 3 speculation assumes that Bungie is making a third Halo game, and goes from there. Before the Halo movie thread was made, the problem was with people making threads saying "I WANT A HALO MOVIE!!!" The Halo 3 threads are more along the lines of "In Halo 3, should we be able to use the pelican in multiplayer?"
I don't mind it too much. It's not really spam. Sure, if there are two topics about having a pelican in multiplayer on the front page, I'll delete the newer one, but if one's about the pelican and another one's speculating about characters in Halo 3, there's no problem. The Underground is not an old-school forum. This is the crucial point that too many people miss. It is for discussion of all Bungie-related topics that don't fit in the other forums. Speculation about future games must go in the Underground, otherwise it will be spam.
Stickying a "Speculate about Bungie's next game" thread just isn't right. People aren't going to want to post in a huge 2000-page catchall thread. The scope of the topic is far too broad; heck, with something as simple as the Halo movie thread, there were problems with people trying to steer the direction of the discussion the way they wanted it to go, stifling other ideas. If someone sees this "Next game" thread, and reads a bit of it, to find that in fact the people in the thread are really only talking about whether or not Bungie will use that cool new physics engine someone just made, but they want to talk about weapons or something, they'll just make another thread anyway. And they'd be right to.
It's just not a good idea. Too many problems. Don't worry, if it's bothering you it'll slow down one day.
