UGH that was my biggest problem.
How do you strafe better? If I try to do anything other than a right left right left I totally choke.
This is a problem for me too, but I've been getting better at it by just trying out different patterns. For example you can go a long strafe to the right, short one to the left, short to the right, long to the left, just mix it up. My strafe is never the same because it also depends on the opponent's movement. I see in this thread a lot of people are saying don't jump, and I agree with that, but if you know both you and your opponent are one shot or close to it, you should jump to the side if possible. This can make you opponent miss the crucial last shots to finish you off (because if all you were doing is strafing, why should he expect a jump?) and let you win the BR battle. Of course, you can look at my record and know I am no where near great at Halo but I have only started to take the game seriously and these are tips that have helped me greatly.
A little trick that I like to do is go back and forth with different lengths each time, then after 2 or 3 shots I'll start to jitter back and forth (Something like the SK Strafe) right before side jumping. I need a lot more practice at this but when I manage to execute it well, I always win the BR battle. (Granted I'm not even playing 40s yet so who knows how effective this really is)
I recommend finding someone who is the same level or a little better than you at BRing and play custom 1 on 1 BR battles to practice. Try out different techniques or patterns (honestly there should never be a pattern, always different) and see which ones save your ass and which ones get your ass killed. Remember the good ones then take it to matchmaking and try to pick up what other people do to out BR you.
