I don't know...I don't think dogs have a complicated enough vocal box or thick enough tongue to really make a language...and, where would they learn it from? What if the dog was raised alone (no other dogs)? If anything, they understand our language, they just can't make the proper sounds with their mouth...hehehehe
But until any of that is proven, I can assume they are simply warnings and things like that. A bark is a sound of warning, attention, or aggressiveness. A growl is a sign of aggressiveness, anger, possession, territory, irritation, etc. A tail wag is a sign of happiness, adrenaline, etc. That's all I can get...
EDIT: Although I will give you this: Dolphins may very well have a language; elephants as well, they have extremely high pitched communication I think.
