boosting is getting high exp with your friends.Which you are not allowed to do.Deranking is betraying or quitting early to lost xp.Both are not allowed.

There are twomsin types of boosting. The first involves everyone in a game working together for achievements, medals, orEXP. Extremely easy to get banned for.

The second is why people derankers. Derankers with a lot of losses will "boost" another player through the ranks, since the game expects them to lose.

This will help you understand better than the above :p

Deranking is linked to boosting, basically someone can go into Team Slayer for example, and lose continuous games, they'll do this by killing their own team or by letting the other team kill them to get a terrible K/D like -20, giving them a certain loss. These continuous losses will help them derank their skill.

Boosting is playing with someone who has been deranking. This way your skill will rise much faster because the game is taking your teammate's losses into account. People also boost will people who have a lot of exp in a playlist, which is why you will see some people who have a low skill in a playlist, but also have 400+ exp. These are boosters.

Something like that anyway, but both will get you banned, but bungie is terrible at tracking it!

Its all very complicated to explain haha

More random facts about boosting/deranking!

BOOSTING

- Exp boosting (usually in double exp) is going into matchmaking with a full party with the intention of drawing games so everyone gains exp - many 50s do this to gain their 5 stars.

- Stat boosting is getting into games either social or ranked with a full team of friends then allowing people to get different sprees/multi-kills in order to make their medal chest look cool or to give them a high KD.

- Standard boosting is when someone of an extremely high rank (50) plays with someone with the express intention of levelling the other person up. This is usually done on a boosting account (e.g. the 50 goes on an account which is only a 12 in doubles with 2000 losses) and therefore most of the games are tipped into the 50s favour - not many would expect a liutenant of being a 50.

- Language boosting is when everyone in a party changes their xbox language to a strange one - chinese/swahilli/etc... then searches for a match using the "search in my language" filter. Usually done in lone wolves to rank up or boost achievements.

- Circle boosting... im not really sure about :P

- Achievement boosting is playing with friends and allowing each other to get matchmaking achievements (e.g. 2 for 1)

DERANKING

Deranking is used for the sole purpose of delevelling your account. Mostly used to make a booster account, deranking means you lose as many games as possible in order to derank. This is important as to make a good booster you need a LOT of losses on your booster account. Most derankers try not to betray in case they get booted - if that happens their team may still win 1v2 and they would gain a win on their record. Not many quit anymore as it is too easy to be caught however quitting was a fast way to gain many losses in succession. However some people derank for different purposes - for HLG or to annoy their team, to name but a few.

Hope this helps ^_^

I preferred your explanation =]

I've never even heard of circle boosting!!

But anyways, you'll mostly likely have seen derankers nowadays in the mlg playlist, they'll probably be jumping up and down on the spot. This is because people modify their controllers so that it auto presses "A" so they can leave their account delevelling for an unlimited amount of time without even having to do anything!

Never ague with an idiot, they will just drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Its an exploit in the way the ranking system works,

A Deranker goes in to a matchmaking with the intent of making their team lose, so they have a really bad record.

Boosting is where a deranker plays with the intent to win so his team will rank up quickly.

So this is how it works;

When you play with a deranker (Now booster) on your team with the intent on winning they will have a bad win/loss ratio (-50 for example) so when you win with a dernker the system thinks "Wow, you won with this terrible person on your team, you must be amazing" so it ranks you up quicker.

And when you lose it thinks "Well you lost because of this guy" so it wont rank you down as quickly.

Those people are dumb, do they not realise they can just put tape their analogue stick forward?

-blam!-s ruining the fun for Halo 3 ranked is what Deranking means, boosting means making bad kids 50s so legit 50s get staff captains as teammates.

Fail/aids.

These are pretty good definitions.

Circle boosting is essentially the same as language boosting, except they don't use the language filter. Circle boosting is matching up with the same party game after game and organizing winners to increase ones rank. Some parties bridge to match each other, while others simply play late at night when the population in their desired playlist is low.

I don't think circle boosting is very common.

^^^DON'T LISTEN TO HIM!^^^

...He's veeery wrong...

Deranking is when a person purposely looses the game for his team (mostly by letting the other team kill him) to get his skill low and locked. This is against the rules.

A deranker with a "low and locked" skill then becomes a "booster" a booster is someone that helps someone else rank up their skill. The way the TrueSkill system reads it, the deranker is being carried by his team, even if he's not. Not all boosters were derankers, and the few that aren't (me included) aren't breaking the rules.

However, the guy who I responded to is confusing "boosting" and "boosters" boosting can be cheating if it is done with a group of players to gain EXP or skill in a way that takes advantage of the system (i.e. Lone Wolves/Griffball Boosting with a group, or otherwise cheating) to give themselves an advantage.

To be simple: A person boosting EXP or cheating to get a highskill is not a booster. Boosters aren't always breaking the rules, they can boost someone if they do so without deranking first or cheating.

If you did this you wouldn't be able to start a new game if you got left in the lobby alone. This is why it needs to be 'A'.
