Hey Everyone. I used to post here pretty regularly, but havent been active for awhile, so let me just break down my own little theories about Halo2 that I've had ever since beating Halo/reading "TFoR" and "The Flood"-I haven't yet read First Strike, but here goes....

1.)Humanity is, or once was, tied directly to the race known as the Forerunner. Whether or not we actually WERE Forerunner remains to be seen, but the only other forseeable possibility is that we were a slave race...think of the Forerunner as Cybernetic superbeings, with AI and biological slaves.

2.)The Forerunner are either dead or gone...likely due to an inability to effectively contain the Flood.

3.)We know that the Halos (or at least one of them) had previously been activated, so it's safe to assume that at one point, IF humanity was tied to the Forerunner (and thereby the destructive activation of a Halo), that they would have to "start over"-Earth being that second chance.

4.)If humanity had to start over, then that would give other alien species, outside the blast radius of the Halo, a kind of advantage in development. Of course, we know that the Covenant are not higly innovative, and that their technology is largely stolen. So it's possible that the only "advantage" the Covenant races had was access to Forerunner technologies, whereas humanity needed to make a fresh start.

I base all of this on these facts:
-the only technological sytem in which humans have an advantage is Information systems, like AI. -TFoR
-Guilty Spark (Prometheus reference?) called MC "the Reclaimer", and used past tense to describe his interaction. -Halo
-Though lesss advanced technologically, humanity has been able to adapt and modify Covenant technoilogies in ways that the Covenant themselves cannot. Adaptive, not innovative. -TFoR, The Flood
-Guilt Spark also referred to human history as "lost time". No subtlety there. -Halo
-The homeworld of the Covenant leadership caste had Forerunner ruins, hence their adulation (if misinterpretation) of the Forerunner and their legacy. -TFoR

So, the big questions are:
1. If the Covenant revere the Forerunner, and we used to BE Forerunner, wouldn't they worship us instead of seeing us as an "unclean" species fit only for extermination? (Interestingly, it seems the Forerunner felt the same way about the Flood. Hm.)

2.What part do the Flood play? Are they the counterbalance to all of this? And if the Forerunner were so advanced, couldn't they just have engineered hosts for them? (Hey waitaminnit...)

3.What is it about Earth (besides being humanity's lifeboat) that's so special?

I hope I'm surprised on Nov. 9th though. Or is it Aug. 24th? Can't tell for all these bees.
