Halo 1 & 2 for PC

Subject: Should I buy Halo: PC?

-Sic transit gloria mundi

I've had Halo: Combat Evolved for the Xbox since June 2002 and still play it regularly.
However, I never got around to buying (or even playing) Halo: CE for the PC. As such I've always wondered if I was missing out on anything.
So, with Halo: Reach coming out in 24 days or so, I'm considering purchasing it. Purely for whatever it's benefits are and not for the Reach flair (which aren't accesible to me anyway since I would be buying it after the May 26th cutoff date.)
So, should I purchase it?

Owners of the Katana: A place for those who have a Katana or over 1000GS in Halo 3.

I've played Halo: PC before, and it is a really fun multiplayer game. Ice Fields is a very fun map. Also, if you do buy it, because the cut off date has been removed, you'd get the flair. I'd recommend getting it.

Yes, I just learned of the cutoff removal after my original post.
Now I'm not sure. The Reach visual flair certainly is an incentive. But I'd feel dirty if I bought it now, because I'd seemingly be with the thousands of other players who simply buy Halo PC for the Reach flair, and not the game itself (well I'd surely appreciate the game, but I wouldn't like to be "in line" with the others.)

We miss you Logan.
Ask any question. I'll help with anything on site or off.

I started playing 2004 ,but I wouldn't get it.

You should get the game, there is a minimum of 100+ servers online all the time and at least 100 people on all the time. It's a really fun game, also if you get it make sure you download the Custom Addition add-on because that allows you to play custom maps that players have made. I play both Halo: CE (Mostly custom edition) and Halo 2 Vista and both are great games (besides Halo 2 Vista getting no official support basically).

Yep! Join us over here, it's still a thriving community!

I'm in a Clan that has a requirement of 1 hour a week gameplay from each member. All 107 current members follow this, that's only one clan, to boot!

I don't want to steal this thread but I am also considering picking this up. I heard there is still a thriving community and the flair is just a bonus. So my question is, Is using just like a regular Dell computer/laptop okay or do you need one of those PC's that you need to buy just to play games like Crysis or something?

I tracked down a copy today, and can't wait to get online for some classic Halo 1 gameplay again. Hopping into indestructible warthogs for some race games on blood gulch will be sweet. I used to have a copy on PC, but for some reason or another gave it to a friend during college and never got it back. So it'll be sweet to go back to the old school stuff before Reach. I definitely recommend this game if you can find it somewhere. It still sells for 20 bucks unless you're lucky enough to find it cheaper.

Very broad question. You'd have to tell us what model of computer you have.

That's like me asking you what car do you own, and you reply "A Chevrolet". There are many different models and sub-models of Chevrolet. So, I'll help you find the model of your Dell PC (not the laptop yet, chances are that the desktop will be better).

Right click on "My Computer" (Just "Computer" in Windows Vista & 7), and then click "Properties". On the Window that appears, it has some basic system info, like the model of the Dell and the main parts. Just type that info into a post.

Thanks

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Get it.
You don't need that good of a PC to run it, i got it to run on a Dell Dimension 2350 with crappy intel "extreme" graphics!.

On your pc it will run but not great, same for the laptop since it probably just has intel graphics. The game WILL probably be playable though.

Yeah, basically what Bryo said. I think you will find that it runs much better on your laptop.

One more thing, out of curiosity:

On both the laptop & desktop, go to start, "Run" (type "run" into Window 7's start menu search bar), once you have that little window, type "dxdiag" (no quotation marks).

Now, on the DxDiag window, go to the "Display" tab. On that page, it tells you your graphics card info. It looks a bit like this, for example:

Device

Name: NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip Type: GeForce GTS 250
....
....
..... etc.

Just let me know that info, and I can tell you how well it should run.

EDIT: Don't worry about the "Drivers", "DirectX Features" or "Notes" sections. The "Device" area is all we need from the "Display" tab in DxDiag. =)

"BXR. Yea, it's cheating." - Highlight of the last night of Halo 2

I just bought it an surprisingly my PC cant run it on full spec :P (its quite old)

I've played Halo 1 on Xbox since the beginning, and feel its a bit unfair that you can only get the Halo 1 flair in Reach by playing on PC, considering there are alot of people who played from the start on Xbox and have no way to validate that.

Anyway, to the point, how do I validate my CD key so its in the system so I can claim the CD key to get my deserved flair?

Just wait until release, or close to it. They haven't told us that yet.

EDIT: Check the Comm Chatter! =)

Get it. The game is fantastic and there's still a sufficient amount of people around playing for there to still be some fun matches. I've been recently trying to get back into it since I purchased a new computer (and had the joy of assembling it). The reqs for the game are lower than I remembered, and awkwardly enough the game can't recognize my RAM at all.

Runs like you wouldn't believe though. Can play through the entire Campaign without loading between missions. Online isn't as great, but that's partially due to the huge tax on my router with a million and one computers in this freakin house.
