Subject: HPC flair - poorly handled?

I'll probably get lambasted for saying this, but I thought the idea behind the H1, H2 and H3 flairs was to reward players that had been loyal to the series.

If that's the case, why did Sawnose take the decision to remove the restrictions on key use and allow for new and unused keys to obtain the flair?

Although this sounds like a complaint about the exclusivity of the flair being reduced, I'm just slightly irrate about the decision to undermine the entire point of the flair to begin with; to reward loyal players of the series. It no longer represents loyalty but those who grabbed a copy of a game (six years later) that they have zero intention of playing.

I couldn't care less about having a miniscule icon next to my name, but once again loyal Halo PC players and the original community have been given the short end of the stick. A final gesture of thanks to the community has been rendered entirely meaningless.

As a final note, I couldn't help but notice that they removed the requirement for the Halo 2 flair (play during the final days), although that's quite understandable.

Anybody else have any thoughts on this?

Eat, Sleep, Row

I'm glad that they changed the key code restriction. This way players who have all of the games for the xbox, what the game was made for, and want to spend 20 bucks on a copy of CE for PC can have the flair they deserve. It would make me kind of angry if it was only People who have just had PC forever. Just my thoughts.

My Youtube - Halo 2 Online Co-op
BUNGIE AND MICROSOFT FAILS HALO 2 VISTA.

Everytime someone buys a copy of Halo 2 Vista, a puppy dies.

The keygen was a fake, so it's all good.

It doesn't matter if they were never loyal, it shows how Bungie/Microsoft/Gearbox can make more money before Halo IP is completely under Microsoft ownership.

I find it funny why Halo 2 Vista wasn't included, not only does Bungie claim they never took part in anything H2V related but I also think they hate it too.

As far as I'm aware, GFWL titles don't have unique algorithms for generating keys. In other words, it'd be impossible to distinguish between a H2V key and one for any other GFWL title. I could be wrong, but that's what I assumed.

I fail to see your logic here. Allowing anybody to pick a copy up doesn't solve the problem of Halo 1 Xbox owners (such as myself) not being able to represent their loyalty. They still cannot. As for being angry about it, there's little point since nothing can be done about the situation with the original Xbox copies. It's unfortunate, yes, but this isn't a logical solution.

Dude, there is, that activate.exe that exists with H2V (& Shadowrun) actually knows the difference between H2V and non-H2V keys.

Instead of promoting the most hated game in the Halo IP (H2V), they promote the best one in the easiest way they can, Halo 1 PC/CE and Product keys. D=

Just going by observations posted in other threads. In that case, I guess it is indeed a snub of the H2V players on their part.

Im with R2 D2, As a old member of the glory days of HPC, it's kinda insulting that anyone could find a copy and enter a key and have the HPC Flair, regardless I will be using the Halo Flair

A couple thoughts here -

First, I'm glad you guys actually care about this! Supporting Halo 1 PC has been a big thing for me over the years and I'm glad it still gets attention.

For the cutoff - I heard from a lot of people last week who only played it for Campaign, and therefore didn't have their keys in the active list. Excluding them would be unfair.

Also, let's say that the cutoff date were still in place. People who wanted to buy a copy for the flair would still be able to, they'd just end up buying a code used from someone who had played the game but not redeemed the code for the flair. You'd end up doubting the legitimacy of people's logos just as much, and we'd end up creating a grey market for used codes and have to deal with complaints of people who bought codes that had already been activated. We probably still will, but at least this way we're not begging for it to happen :-)

So basically, allowing the smallish number of people who will buy it for the flair to get it from retail will keep things cleaner and fairer in the big picture.

p.s. - the thing about Halo 2 flair was occasionally misreported, even by us. The official plan was supposed to be this (and occasionally messaged correctly): if you EVER played halo 2, you get the flair. If you played Halo 2 in the last days, you got early access to the Reach beta. And that's what we're doing.

Thanks for the response. Much appreciated. :)

Edit: To expand a bit, those seem like fair and understandable points.

I did see a few key requests before the restrictions were removed but I figured it was a case of caveat emptor if people were desperate enough to get hold of one. However, I can imagine these people finding a way to dump the blame on Bungie if they ended up out of pocket and without the flair.

Thanks for checking in here.

Might sound silly, but I care even more that you care. It's awesome to know that we're appreciated, especially as you guys get bigger and bigger and Halo becomes old news.

Yeah thanks from clearing that up. I still own and play all of the Halo games and was quite bummed out about the flair not being available for me. But now I can go out and show my support!

I'll be one of the few picking this up for the flair, but I'll also finally get to play multiplayer legitimately.

  • 08.22.2010 10:05 AM PDT

Just found my key, Sawnose, I understand how the other Flair will be recognized for everyone's account. Have you determined a specific way to and a estimated date for users to enter their key? I take it we would be entering them somewhere on the site and can we enter these before September 14?

Because there a some of us, like myself, who have previously played Halo PC however many years ago, and no longer have my CD key.

I don't know why everyone is sooo excited about some flair for the xbox360, in my opinion this is just another kick in the crotch for the Halo PC community!

I mean think about it, we are talking about loyalty and appreciation for playing halo PC and what do we get?
Some freaking flair for an Xbox360?!

Can someone please explain to me in what way this flair for a different platform shows appreciation for our loyalty to the PC version?

Appreciation would be when your actually doing something for the Halo PC community! Not some flair to show off at a different platform for the game, that doesn't make sense to me at all!

Now Sawnose don't get me wrong I appreciate the gesture your trying to make here and the effort you put into it, but if you really want to show the Halo PC community some appreciation for their loyalty.
You would convince the guys at Bungie to give green light to do something small and nice for the Halo PC game.
This doesn't have to be huge overalls since we all love the game as it is, but just small tweaks which might bring a new level of fun to the game, but thats just my two cents.

I might, somewhere in the far far future. (Recently purchased a xbox360, leaving it behind in the US)
Don't get me wrong here I'm not saying anything about Reach.
I'm just pointing out the fact that a so called reward for PC users should be on the PC and not on the xbox360.

Uh...what?

I bought Halo PC back before H3 came out in August and I've been playing it ever since. Are you saying people like me don't deserve flair? GG.
