Now you need to bear with me on this one, but me and my little brother have been daydreaming of this Multiplayer mode sense the very first announcement of Halo 2. And we actually think that Bungie could pull it off without a hitch. And some of these facts may have been posted before but I'm pretty sure my MP idea is fresh and very, very interesting.
The alpha and beta testing that's been done has the Bungie team doing what they can to move the online games to have more than the standard 16 player per map...something more like 24 or so. Now that's not the cool part obviously. Now we know that the standard MP modes are going to be in place, and we also assume that there will be an online Co-Op mode to play in.
I might not be the only one that remembers an article from a while back that was speculating about H2 well before the trailers and the like that said that H2 might actually come to surface as a MMOFPS. Now I'll let you all grasp that concept before I spill my idea.....ok now I'll tell you. Basically it works quite simply: You start a map with yourself and up to 4 other Co-Op players (depend on how the story will be...those of us that read Fisrt Strike know that other SPARTANS were with MC, but we don't know if they're in the game....so....) and alls fine and well...you and three pals playing as SPARTANS in Mark VI armor would kick ass all by itself. Will the greatness end there? Of course not, Bungie is like that Scott Reiney guy from the Scott*Trade commercials (believed in giving more for the money even when they were young). They go a step above and beyond that and allow other playes from XBOX LIVE join the game on the fly to be an opposing covenant forces as to kick the experience up a notch. So now you're playing THE BEST opponents there could be in the game: other people!! And the covenant players (as in more than one) could play as a grunt, jackal, Elite...etc....they choose when they enter the game what character they want to play as and they enter right then and there. And when they die it doesn't end there, they can come back as another Covenant scumbag, only with an eye for revenge this time around.
There is so much potential to this game type...you could even turn it into a game kind of like Wolfenstein and make one player be a medic, one the sniper...etc..that way the sides would be more even seeing as you'd be fighting real people, not just A.I. anymore. Now that would up the replay value a few more notched if I do say so myself. What do you guys think? Read my ideas and write back, BTW thanks to all of you that took the time to read my thread.

well, its a pretty good idea in theory. unfortunatly it would be impossible to implement into halo 2 at this point considering the game is about to be finished. maybe for halo 3.

How do we know if they didn't already do it? How much do we really know about the game so far? They could have put it into the game and not said anything about it...maybe they want to leave some suprises handy for those of us that are waiting for every last drop of info so we can salivate for weeks about the possibilities. That's what they've done so far...and besides I remember readiin some interview that Bungie was trying to do something that no one has ever done before, and my idea deffinately fits that desciption down to a T.

Your explaining of it was a bit confusing but I still like your idea, have people be different classes like in wolfenstein, yet the game is almost done so, yeah......

Yeh sweeet ideas would be pretty cool...but then bungie would have tro make different models of the MC for medic ppl :-\ btw covie killa lol learn the definition of Ironic...its out of context there bud

You guys are missing my point, I'm trying to say that maybe Bungie already made this game type before and hasn't announced it yet...that way they still have one last ace up their sleeve. Then the game would already be coded for the game type and the character models would be made as well as the model for online play. It was hypothetical as well, so just imagine how cool it would be, don't say it's impossible. Write about what game types you'd want to see or what would make my game type better than what I described it as.

Really for a sweeet game type...It would be more then the game it self and the multiplayer itself...but when you start up...different play modes Perhaps the campaign,co op, MP and xbox live but then on top of that how about something like "Survival" where you in a earth city a fairly big one...and scattered through the map are ammo and items and reinforcement being pinned now that you can rescue...basicly an onslaught map wheres there are waves of covenant Wave 1-Grunts and jackals and then it would progress getting more insane each time...each time you log in your kills of covies and to what wave you died on trying to beat your score each time...

I would have more faith in Microsoft than that for their game of the last two years hype...and Bungie should really deliver for thefans and not just use a rehash of an idea. Albeit it would be an awesome idea for those gamers that don't have LIVE, but what happens to those of us with LIVE? Do we get the same options as the people without? I think if they put this game into the game they could make it work with my idea as well. Every wave has actual people oevr LIVE playing against you and you squad...the stats would track the kills you have...the kills the opponent has and so on. That way the people with LIVE get that much more...Xbox gamers are supposed to be the cream of the crop, so why wouldn't you want to be pitted up against the best of the best, instead of some lame A.I. that gets "smarter"?

It wont get smarter is what im saying it will just be hard do not get surrounded and slaughtered by the masses of enemies...it would be alot harder then you think...running through a huge city with alleys and all....you come around to corner to stop dead in your tracks to a wraith tank and 2 ghosts in front of it spinning away to your back only to see masses of covies coming at you...but you will always have a way...as long as theirs alleys and intersections the problem will be surviving and killing off the covies wave by wave aquiring medals even! that give you power ups....maybe a little more dmg or speed something of that sort

I would like a mode that tests your accuracy and helps you improve. This can be done with 1 or more people.

But look at it from my point of view...my game type would be able to be put into any other game type that you could think of, it's like MP team deathmatch only it's on crack/-blam!-. Or like that reference that was made to H2 about the hospital and the ninja's on fire, yea...ninja's on fire!!!

I think it would be awesome to do that, but I dont think Bungie did it with the game, and I dont think they would do it with Halo 3, or 4 or however many more they do in the storyline, Face it, Bungie wouldnt do that, cause releasing an Online only Halo game would automatically reduce the number of sells, seeing as only about 40% of Xbox owners have Xbox Live...
BUT hear me out, I think they could make a Halo game like that as just a side project, well they are working on the others, and it could have like NO storyline, but the people that play create their own storyline practically, running around the universe, conquering teams of other players, and searching ancient ruins and such, GREAT IDEA DUDE! ~two thumbs up~

Yeah, I like the idea for the mode to test accuracy...but how would that be playable with multable people and still be fun?

I think it would work better without people having classes and stuff defining them. Bungie's system works, eveyone on equal footing seems to make the game work. I think it would be cooler if u put both sides against each other in a map that had two bases (one for each team). The objective would be to control the other team's base for a set amount of time. The respawning points would be made so that it would be hard to spawn camp, and the bases would be far enough apart or be separeted by turns and walls so that newly respawned teammates couldn't easyily give u cover fire if you're still alive at the enemies' base. I would suggest the timer to be set at a small amount of time (2 minutes or so, maybe less). But the timer would reset back to zero if no one was at the enemy base to keep it going, so it would have to be two minutes of continuously having someone in the enemy base, which is ridiculously hard. This could easily turn into huge battles if done outdoors (with vehicles). I wouldn't seeing a squadron of banshees in a fight against the enemies', all while in the ground below them a bunch of rocket launcher armed spartans are trying to repel an attack of hogs, tanks, ghosts. Not to mention the snipers who will undoubtedly be shooting away.

Although, it won't work as well as it could if more than 16 people could play in one game. And having more than 16 people could mean instense lag for everyone, FPSs have a lot of action compared to most of the huge online games.

What I'm suggesting isn't an online only MP game...I'm saying that it would be like a deathmatch mode...available to the people that have LIVE and it just plays through the storyline like a single player game with multiple players(as confusing as that might seem). But I do like the idea for the side project...although that would be more like a FPS/RPG like the game CITIZEN ZERO is going to be. Thanks for the thumbs up though...you're the 1st person to give me a thumbs up on any of my ideas.

Just an idea, but shouldn't this be like an unlockable? Or even, the other spartans, like if you beat the game on say, heroic, you get new character models\classes to play through the SP in. I think it would be GREAT if there was a 4 player split screen co op, and to not make it so easy you wouldn't respawn when you die? As for the original topic, thats a good idea. Maybe there could be Mission deathmatches where one person controls the covies and one person controls the marines, and every time you die you switch to another marine\covenant(who would be AI controlled until you die and switch to them) first team to lose all their soldiers loses the game. Just some of my ideas.

Now fudger, I have a question for you...isn't there already a game title for what you're describing? I think it's called king of the hill, only difference I can see is the different timer settings. The whole thing about where people spawn would all depend on the map more than likely anyways.

Just thought of somthing in the last two seconds: Vechicle related MP mode, one team gets all the weapons and ammo they need respawned atv their base, the other team gets like, 4 ghosts, 2 scorpions, 2 banshees, and 2 warthogs, somthing like that. The team that gets the vehicles couldn't pick up wepons, and the team with weapons couldn't drive vehichles. You would play two rounds, one with like, red team on vehicles, blue on weapons, then the next round with blue on vechicles red on weapons. You get a certain ammount of time, team that kills the most in both rounds wins. On a side note, the vehicles would respawn back at the base when their driver was killed as well, so if you get all the people driving killed at the enemys base, you wouldn't have to walk defenslessly over there to try and get your car back.

CrimsonAngelus, it's more like a moddified king of the hill, seeing as how there's two "hills", one for each base. And you basically start at the "hill" the enemy is trying to take, and the enemy starts at the "hill" you're trying to take. I think it would be perfect if more than 16 players could play in game. Also, bungie probably made this game type already, seeing as how it's not that different from normal KOTH. Although it's like switching from normal CTF to Assault, strategies can change drastically, or they may not change at all.
