"The Important Thing Is To Never Stop Questioning,"

I suggest that Bungie.net do a Massive Chapter Cleanout. I was seaching through a bunch of random Chapters today and about 50% of them were all dead, had been for months, and it doesnt look like anyone is going to visit them anytime soon. These Chapters have over 3 members, so are able to still exist, yet noone visits them. They are just taking up space. I suggest that Bungie.net do a massive Chapter Search and all those who have been Inactive for 3 months or so be deleted.

Yes, I think bungie should make it more difficult to keep a chapter alive. This would help with performance issues.

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

Exactly. The member sweep is clearly not living up to its promises.

I have a chapter which i started under a different login, and because I had to change my login there is no longer administrative control over the group. It has been dead for ages since I made that announcement to the members but no-one has left. It's just so pointless that it still exists.

The probation notice states:
Group On Sixty Day Probation!
Probation started on MM/DD/YYYY hh:mm AM/PM PDT, XX day(s) remaining.
Bungie.net System Notice: You have sixty days from the time listed above to restore activity and membership to this group above the minimum thresholds, or this group will be deleted. This is your only warning.

So, I assume that inactivity would lead to a probation notice. Of course, what is considered inactive?

Apparently, having 3 members is considered "activity".

In truth, a human system might be more beneficial. Like ye olde "disband THIS!" - the fatal flaw, of course, is that Achronos does not have time to browse through each group and check for inactivity. If it were possible to appoint members (preferably moderators)/Bungie employees as "Group Observers" (ie. those who can access Group forums but change nothing within), and then have these people report to a higher authority with the power to delete a Group, it would be ideal. Sadly the problem arises again, there probably wouldn't be that many people willing to help out - and it wouldn't be right for people to be able to browse around strictly private areas such as HFCS.

More realistic would be updating the system to check after a further sixty days (or for Groups who never suffered the ominous notice, sixty days after founding), and delete the Groups with no Forum/non-guest book article posts in 30/60 days.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

For situations like this could we create a place where people can request disbands?

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Go for it

I like this idea. And Psyched's right. It needs to be done by people.

It wouldn't be hard to get many volunteers via the promise of a custom avatar. :)

I'm sure the mods and Achronos keep eyes on anyone they think might show promise for a mod position, or for something liket this.

LOL whats the big deal with custom avaters anyways?

shure they are cool, but im not gonna worship someone for having one.

And we dont need people.

Im shure acrhons has could make something that automatically deleted inactive groups.
Much like how accounts get deleted. Groups can suffer the same fate.

I don't think they'd even need to be able to see the content of the threads - just that threads are being made.

Well, yes he could. There is only two issues with that. How well would it perform? (too well, or not well enough) And, does he even have time to take on such a project what with the karma system and search function he's dealing with? He is also working on the changes that will occur once their next project is announced. And he may be helping with the next project. Not to mention fixing system bugs. So, he pretty much has a full schedule.

Well why dont you call him and see.

I doubt it would be hard for someone of his qualifications to adapt a system that is already in place for members.

I just dont trust people for this type of thing.

Say they say a group is dead, when its not. And whoever just deletes it. Well that sux for the group.
Also how would these people know where to look? There is no solid group direcetory. There are hundreds maybe thousands of groups and no list of them. They are just out there in cyber space. How would the people even know they existed?

So the only full proof option I see is a automated system.
If accounts can be deleted. Groups can be also.

And I know Acrhonos is incharge of the site. But does he have programmers who work under him? If so then im shure they can do it. If not then that sux for him and i feel bad for him.

Bungie is soo big he has to have programmers , if not it would be very slow and alot of other flaws . And if a person did it he could get a active group deleted even if it wosn't on purpose . You could make a program which deleated a group after 120 days of no posts replys , AND no views for 40 days . So if it wasn'6t viewed for 40 days it gets deleated ...

Hey snowman, I'm new but I understand the process (I used to use my friend's account). Tell me, why does Bungie need to delete older, less active chapters if they have the memory space to keep them?

I think they should spotlight the top groups by activty level so us new members have good places to go. =D I agree with you there though, there are a lot of dead groups....
