Something I have just noticed is, when FS left off, the Chief was on his way to warn Earth in the Gettysburg, and had destroyed nearly 500 Covenant Starships at The Unyielding Hierophant.

Yet when you watch the announcement trailer, the Covenant are already there. This means that something has slowed the Gettysburg from reaching Earth. I think this means that the opening levels will not take place one Earth, but on other planets.

Given the notion that events from FS may be included, I don't think we will be seeing Earth until atleast halfway through the game.

Any opinions?

I think this may be possible actually. Although the announcement trailer may just have been to show that Halo 2 will take place on Earth and that its under attck, so it may not be part of the story itself, meaning MC could be on Earth already.

I believe that we will be on Earth relatively close to the beginning not necessarily the first level because that would require alot of gaps to be filled in within that one level. I think level 3 maybe, so levels 1 and 2 would be kicking covenant ass in space and trying to make your way back to Earth. That's my 2 cents

Yeah, it could just be a scene just to show off the graphics. I doubt it though, it would be confusing when you played it. Bungie has already said that scene won't be the opening scene for the game. ( I think )

Yeah, but it couldn't have been anything later than a fifth of the game, marines were saying at e3 2003 that they were surprised they sent a Spartan. Anything later than that wouldn't make sense to me.
