it actually makes you move faster once you get going, but really isnt as important as people think it is
I learned this the hard way. Putting yourself into too many 1v1 situations in a team game puts you at a disadvantage and essentially means that you're not utilizing teamshooting, which is an absolute must in high ranked matches.
Your BR and strafe can only get so good. Being able to function effectively as a team and outsmarting your opponents is key to winning more battles, and the more battles you win, the higher your chances of winning the game.
And to totally make this post on-topic: mix up your strafe with short and lojng strafes. I remember this hilariously lazy strafe that actually worked on me in TS. This guy that was a 50 had this amazingly quick and unpredictable strafe and he kept trying to pull it on me. I killed him several times with the help of my team. Then, halfway through, he decides to use this lazy strafe where he goes goes left for a second then right for a second. What he did was this crazy wide strafe that caught me off-guard, which got me killed.
Seriously, mix it up and stay unpredictable.
Oh, and I've found myself using the environment to strafe in and out of. For example, on Citadel, I strafe in and out of those big boxes in the attic, which works great. The moment I move behind one of those, people expect me to run or hide, so they lob a nade or something, giving me time to pop out and put those extra shots on him.
