How do?

I know to get better at your BR it's good to play Octagon and stuff, but what about strafing? I know it's a really big factor in 1v1 situations. I can't seem to strafe for my life. It's always slow, predictable, ugh. It barely helps me.

Mmmm Brains!

I found out that it feels like you strafe very slow, but actually you are moving fatser than you think. go check it in theater mode.

But dont bother about those super-fast strafers. some people use lag-switches and cheat to strafe way faster than normal

it actually makes you move faster once you get going, but really isnt as important as people think it is

lol no. it's actually a tactic.

move the left analog stick left and right but don't touch the edges of the controller with the stick. (hard to explain, but makes you strafe faster)

Mmmm Brains!

Yeah I know about that, but then there are still people who strafe way too fast (= lag-switch)

And to comment at the other guy his post, strafing is important at higher levels. It becomes one of the decisive things in a BR shootout

Disagree. Strafe>Shot IMO. Its not hard to develop a decent shot, playing alot and with good people will get you one of those, but without a good strafe, you wont get by on people who have good shots as well

I learned this the hard way. Putting yourself into too many 1v1 situations in a team game puts you at a disadvantage and essentially means that you're not utilizing teamshooting, which is an absolute must in high ranked matches.

Your BR and strafe can only get so good. Being able to function effectively as a team and outsmarting your opponents is key to winning more battles, and the more battles you win, the higher your chances of winning the game.

And to totally make this post on-topic: mix up your strafe with short and lojng strafes. I remember this hilariously lazy strafe that actually worked on me in TS. This guy that was a 50 had this amazingly quick and unpredictable strafe and he kept trying to pull it on me. I killed him several times with the help of my team. Then, halfway through, he decides to use this lazy strafe where he goes goes left for a second then right for a second. What he did was this crazy wide strafe that caught me off-guard, which got me killed.

Seriously, mix it up and stay unpredictable.

Oh, and I've found myself using the environment to strafe in and out of. For example, on Citadel, I strafe in and out of those big boxes in the attic, which works great. The moment I move behind one of those, people expect me to run or hide, so they lob a nade or something, giving me time to pop out and put those extra shots on him.

Hates to love and loves to hate.

Strafing is important because a perfect one can cause you to win nearly ever one on one.Whenever in the air, ghandi hop and when strafing try to go back and forth and don't jump, its too predictable.

its better for people like me, who havent quite developed a good br yet, to focus on the shot more than the strafe. no matter how much i strafe, if i cant hit all 4 shots ill lose more often than not.

of course, its also my fault if i get into a 1v1 situation, but thats slightly irrelevant.

Lol, there is no perfect strafe. If you constantly do the same one, you will get destroyed after your first few encounters. The key to a good strafe is unpredictability.

And jumping works. It's really easy to bodyshot a jumper, so only jump on the third shot, though, because the other person will have to adjust, giving those extra 2 - 3 shots to finish him off.

It isnt bad if you are put in a 1vs1 situation. Sometimes your teammates died, are under fire or whatever, and then at these moments being able to either defend an objective by being able to win a 1vs1, or push forward which totally surprises people, is very useful.

Sometimes, suprising people to run into a 1vs1 battle when they expect you to stick around your team can get you a few extra kills.

Isn't there that one really weird strafe that you don't push your control stick all the way so you end up strafing really fast?

You know strafing becomes more of an intuitive thing after a while. My personal favorite is the really fast short strafe, where you go left for one sec, then right the next without touching the edges. It's great for catching ppl off guard because they then have to sync up with your strafe, by the time they do you're already on you're third shot which means they're pretty much dead. That strafe only works for close to mid range though. When we're talking about long range strafe's you have to make them long. One good tactic for those really far br battles like on sandtrap and valhalla is to jump. You have to lead your shots at such long ranges and on top of that their jumping? That pretty much makes leading your shots really difficult if they're jumping like rabbits back and forth.

Also, I said you'll have to get in touch with your stafe. Which means that you'll have to read your opponent's strafe as you're strafing. So while you're strafing you change up your strafe depending on which direction they're strafing and where they're shots are going. Generally if they're strafing left, you strafe right to make it seem as is you're strafing faster. Also, read their movements. Messy strafe's with missed shots means they're nervous, do a quick left, right, left then jump to finish them off. Use your environment! If you got bumper jumper going on, jump around them in a circle while using the environment around you to really throw them off. Sometimes I even start to strafe then stop at the last second, it throws them off like crazy. Have you ever out br'd someone while standing still? It's hilarious. Try it sometime.
