Okay, so I've seen a lot of ODST fan fiction on the gallery. To gauge the reaction, I'm going to write the prologue and ask what you think. I'd really appreciate any feedback.
Gerard L'Oiseau sat on the floor of the UNSC frigate. His helmet sat between his knees. He looked through the clear visor and thought about the mission ahead. The Covenant had discovered Earth. They might be able to hold off the Covenant's ground forces, but the mysterious technology of their space cruisers would overcome the UNSC fleet, and they would glass Earth.
Now was their chance to stop it. The Prophet of Truth was in low orbit above New Mombasa. They would have to drop onto the ship he was in and infiltrate deep inside to assassinate the hierarch. It was a suicide mission, and for the ODST's, their last, whether due to death, or the end of this war.
Everyone knew what this mission meant. They had seen worlds glassed before, seen the utter holocaust these aliens had wrought. Some, like Lukas Straczinsky and Jack Mulligan, had seen it happen to their homeworlds of Harvest and Reach. But this wasn't just a planet, this was Earth, the homeworld of humanity. It was also the location of Gerard's home country, Belgium. But patriotism was long ago replaced with the united effort of space colonization.
Whether humans would survive the glassing of Earth or not, they would have no will left to fight. And so they would fight now, for humanity's last chance.
Gerard stood, donning his helmet. Lukas, the squad's gunnery sergeant and leader, handed him an M7S submachine gun. Lukas himself picked up a shotgun. Jack Mulligan grabbed a grenade launcher and his own SMG while the rest of the squad geared up.
"Are you ready, Snatch?" asked Lukas. Snatch was what the squad had taken to calling him during the Battle of Ariel. But that was another story.
"Yes, sir."
"Then get to your pod. We have business with the Covenant."
Gerard and his squad went to their drop pods. He locked his submachine gun into it's slot and fondly slapped the magnum at his side. Then, he turned and locked himself into the pod. It was time to drop. Gerard felt the familiar anxious catch in his throat as he watched his squad mates drop out of sight. Then, he heard the hiss of his pod. His stomach lurched into his throat as he was thrown hurtling towards Earth.
