In all honesty it could be your Xbox. Let's not forget the quality first gen, launch Xbox360's had. RROD, and the lens inside would loosen up overtime which would scratch the disks. If you have circular scratches on the disk, there's a big chance it's the lens. I would get the 360 fixed asap, or send it into Microsoft if they cover that.
Did you move your 360 while the disc was inside? Also, If we're talking about a permenently broken disk, is the spindle cracked in the middle? I've had two of my games get cracks in the hole in the middle due to wear and tear. Constantly taking in and out the games out of their case would cause this. For example, I had to buy Oblivion again because the first one got a crack in the spindle in the middle. Played it too much >_>, I even bought again. My original Halo 3 disc has a slight crack too due to how much I played Halo 3. Just get a new disc if it's cracked.
If it's your 360, get a new one!
