Changin the Spectrum

Link to ending after credits.

It is almost exactly three years after the release of one of the most critically acclaimed games for the xbox 360. The ending of the game [SPOILERS] shows a monument to fallen soldiers after the human-covenant war, where scratched onto the surface are the numbers 117. This leads players to believe John is dead, along with Lord Hoods words to the Arbiter, "Hard to believe he's dead."

Now. the ending that deserves to be re-examined, three years after the release of Halo 3. The ending after the credits. lets take a look, piece by piece.

:10 in: Cortana: "I thought i'd lost you too."
lost you too? This may imply Cortana had lost the Arbiter when the ship went throught the portal. Simply nothing.

:50 in: Cortana: "We barely made it throught the portal. well, some of us made it." Didnt the front half of the ship make it through? So that would mean the back half got cut off and didnt go through, leaving it floating near the Ark, correct?

1:51 in: Master Chief: "Wake me when you need me." The infamous line that just closes the game well. or does it? note Cortana's reaction to this line at 1:52. Surprise? Disapointment? Guilt? Could this somehow relate to Halo 2's ending, when Gravemind tells Cortana he has questions that must be answered, and Cortana seems willing to answer? Does Chief know that Cortana may have been the one to bring the flood to Earth?

and finally, 2:38 in: The ominous planet. Onyx? unlikely. [SPOILERS] At the end of Ghosts of Onyx it was revealed Onyx was a collaberation of Sentinels, and after Halsey and the Spartan IIIs jumped to the shield world, Onyx disbanded. There is no Onyx now.
That leaves a few options. Reach? a glassed Reach of course, but from the red glowing outline of the planet it may seem like a posibility. I see one flaw with that however. Reach would be too close to Earth that someone would discover the beacon Cortana activated, so they would shortly be rescued.
That leaves option two, that it is a planet never seen. Perhaps the next game of this story will bring us to a planet like Harvest, while also glassed may hold more to it than we know.

That is my wall, faithful community. Granted all of the above is speculation and careful thinking. If there are any flaws in my above logic, please dont hesitate to discuss below. :)

Forever Forgers

Live and let live.

:10 Thought about that too. Well, how many have they lost by now? Keyes, Johnsson, thousands of nameless soldiers. Could name an endless ammount, INCLUDING all the other spartans. John is all that cortana has left. No strange that she would say that.

:50 Where the back end went we have no idea. Not at the ark, because the halo was firing so it would have killed them. We know that it takes time to travel through a slipspace portal, so the front end could have made it through and the back would have been inside, in a space between the entrances. What happens when the portal collapses? Where would they end up? In between, somewhere else, in a completely different universe? who knows? Watch Halo Legends Origins
Part 1
and Part 2.

1:51 Check origins

2:38 Looks forerunner, maybe. No idea really.
But I want something far different from you, Reclaimer.

Atonement.

And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions.

But I would have my masters know that I have changed.

And you shall be my example.

This is a part of the message revived from Medicant Bias when the terminal on the level Halo is accessed on Legendary difficulty. He wants atonement, prove that he is better now, prove it to the forerunners. He will hold the portal open, which means that he can control it. Could he control where chief was sent? How is chief going to be an example?

You really into the halo lore? I suggest you hang out a bit at The Bungie Universe Forum. Everyone there makes up theories about what happened, and what is to come like you. I recommend reading through the pinned topics there, and also the one to the right here, This one.
