The problem is, not all of the moderators are online all of the time.

Nah. Them having global powers is much better, say for example the mod was AWOL for a day, there would be no one to moderate that forum except achronos and the web team, and they are already overworked, at least they'd better be. :D.

well then they'd have to call in a sick day and arrange for a substitute, otherwise they'd be fired.

'Out of a cannon... into the sun...'?

Moderating needs to be laissez faire in that regard. You can't just expect people constrict themselves to just one specific forum - they'd easily get bored. Besides, most of them have interestes outside of B.net that need attending to - jobs, families and world domination for instance.

*wets self from laughing, then dies*

The mods don't get paid, and they all have jobs (I think). That'd be an interesting sick day.

"Hey Achronos I'm gonna be sick for 9 hours mon.-fri., and sick 12 hours sat. and sun."

But it isn't their job. It's voluntary work. They already have actual jobs away from bungie.net. They come here in their spare time to hassle you.

When was the last time Sigma went online?

The 5th, but i highly suspect that it wasn't him who logged on. I think it was someone with access to his password, someone like achronos maybe (He might not have the power due to its a Microsoft run "passport"), so Siggys account wouldn't be deleted because he hasn't been on for over six months now.

I'm not that active, but never dead.

Would everyone just get off his back?

The Sleeping Moderator shall pwn all those who oppose him.

The Moderators do a great job. They do what they can, and its usually enough. They don't need to be assigned forums. I'd get tired of just seeing one forum... I already do that, heh. They are able to go to any forum they please, and thats the way it should be. I like seeing some different friends once in a while in the Septagon.
