Its just a game.

Right, so we all know that the forerunners built the rings, used them to wipe out all life and destroyed the flood.
Then they sent automatic controlled ships to each planet again to re populate them and revive the life they destroyed.

HOWEVER!
In Halo legends it is said that the forerunners did not make biological copies of their own species and thats why they are extinct.
But through out the entire Halo games the monitor talks to MC as if he was a forerunner.
Which just means that humans were forerunners.
Thats why only humans can activate the rings.

Also in Halo legends, the forerunners they showed looked nothing like a human being.

So did i miss something here or did 343 make their first critical mistake already on the story line?

Humans are Forerunner relatives, Forerunners are humanoid, but they are probably related to humans in the same way humans are supposedly related to apes.

It's like Stargate, Humans are relatives of "The Ancients" some humans have the DNA strand that allows them to use the ancient technology. Now, it's not the exact same situation, but close to it.

Im not convinced that humans have any biological or genetic relation to forerunner. I think it may just be that humans were the 'chosen people' according to the foreunner, From what was said in the H3 terminals, because they saw so much potential in our early species. I think thats why they programmed all left behind foreunner tech to respond to a humans touch, and why only we can be reclaimers if the rings ever needed activation again. They specifically chose us to take up the mantle after they had so spectacularly failed to protect galactic life, and had to resort to destroying it.

If you're passionate about the thing you're talking about, I'll always lend an ear.

This.

Although in my opinion i muched rather the elites be the chosen inheritors as they are shown to be genetically superior to humans and incredibly resourceful at times.

For example,

This one instance in Halo 3 when Lord Hood was to busy bickering about how the fleet commander had glassed half of Africa to destroy a flood infection. It had to be done. The flood had been shown to be capable to destroy the entire galaxy for goodness sakes. He should be thanking The Elite for using his resources to help him out not shouting at him.

In this case it just showed the lack of reasoning a Human Leader was capable of as compared to the Elite Leader.

Although this is just one instance maybe even an exception but from what the Halo universe has always portrayed was that humans were irresponsible and always had wars to fight, even with themselves. Where as the Elites had a very honor based society.

I'm not Pro-Elite but if anyone should inherit the mantle it should have been them.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

The Forerunners didn't go extinct, they left the Orion Arm of the Milky Way after they reseeded the galaxy of life because they failed to uphold the Mantle, so they passed it down to humanity (as the Librarian saw us as special) which made humans Reclaimers and gave us access to their technology and allowing us to activate the Halos.

343 GS was mad, he would not have been allowed to know every part of the Forerunners' plan, as he states that his knowledge was strictly limited to his programming duties on installation 04. He identifies Reclaimers to be the same as Forerunners, which is wrong.

Humans were discovered by the Forerunners, they are 2 very different races. It's speculated that humans are actually de-evolved Precurosrs, but that's too much of a grey area to elaborate on.

The aesthetic look of the Forerunners in Origins is COrtana's interpretation on what the Forerunners would look like from the information she's gathered; it is not neccessarily accurate.
