I have a few ideas about how to improve...things.

In reguards to the whole "reward members" things, we may want to take a page from the Cheap Ass Gamer forums. Members are given titles based on the number of posts. At 1k posts, they get a custom title. It would seem that this would just inspire spam, but remember, we have a spam filter, plus several new mods, to help keep the number of undesirable threads down.

We should keep the "custom avatars for significant members only" thing in place, as well has the font color thing that same.

Of course, the search feature should definatly return.

And the gallery should totally start running again.

Once we get a few more members (possibly by 06) we should add another forum, or just a sub-forum (if that is possible). This forum/sub-forum would contain all of the birthday threads, the b-net bithday threads, and any aniversarry threads (like that of games and systems). We could possibly replace one of the other, lesser-used threads (like the Voting Both and The Gallery) with it.

A way to reward members, without actually having to create a new system (so, less work for Achronos) would be "Member of the Week". It would just be a locked sticky, posted in once per week by a different mod every week (take turns, so different opinion can be shared). That mod would have total control, and his (her?) opinion could not be challenged. The mod would write a shot summary (maybe a paragraph of two) of the member's accomplishments and/or the reason that this person won.

Maybe it shouldn't be a number of posts system so much as a ratio of posts to time online. This would be sure that people who spam do not get rewarded, as once the ratio becomes too high the posters priviledges are revoked. Of course there will be exceptions of outstanding people who post quality topics and are active on the boards, but I'm sure they can be accomidated. No statistics of posts would be displayed in this system. If anything involving a post count or something like this was applied I think any posts with less then 5-6 words shouldn't be added to the count.

It would, example : "I agree with your idea".

That statement has no quality what so ever.

So now there is significant members? Are the significant members the ones that post a lot?

Agreed

Bungie will most likely create a new forum for their next project.

I believe that Achronos is working on some sort of system that will reward members. This is a good idea, but I think what Achronos is doing will be better.

That does sound good, but this has to be plausible. A post count system is laready gonna take a lot of time, so adding a ratio system would just compound that. Not to mention how hard it would be to program in the "exceptions" and all. I think the mods would be able to make sure spammer don't get rewarded. Yeah, I agree that no stats should be displayed. Putting that in seems hard and redundant. Finally, I "super-argee" about the number of words per post thing, although that has to be thought hard about to get the number of words wanted adequate, and to decide wheither or "a", "and", and "the" should be counted.

I think he meant people like: Moderators, Admin's, Staff.

Rabid Gnome was talking about a word count that would help remedy that.

"Significant Members" is just a term I use to refer to the collective community of all the members that Bungie.net has given the ability to use custom avatars to.

Like your mum always says: quality; not quantity.

As I said, he is working on some sort of karma system. The trouble is that it could be abused.
