By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

it is just a cliffhanger for 343 to pick up on if they are going to continue the game series.

Yes, but there's an answer to the cliffhanger.

Do not listen to anyone who tries to pull the following theories on you:

- Marathon: That other thread is over 2 years old, it's outdated and is impossible because 343 Industries do not own the Marathon IP and can't use the characters or the universe. There is no "alternate universe travel" crap in Halo.

- Onyx: Onyx was obliterated, the planet revealed itself to be trillions of Sentinels that disengaged and left behind a tiny Micro Dyson Sphere in a slipspace bubble of compressed dimensionality. The Antechamber portal leading to the Dyson Sphere closed so all that's left of Onyx is a trillion pissed off Sentinels flying around in space.

- Reach: The planet was glassed, it has no atmosphere (Spartan-IIs only have 80/90 minutes of oxygen reserves) and there's no reason at all for John to go there. He never took part in the battle, Reach is just a floating wreck.

- Time Travel: This doesn't happen in Halo. Sure, the Slipspace Crystal can bend time, but time travel is not (and never will be) a major plot device in Halo.

*

My theory is that it's a planet the Forerunners fled to once they reseeded the galaxy of life in the aftermath of the Halo's firing.

Anyone who thinks the Forerunners all died are wrong. They had loads of Shield Worlds - which most of them made it to - and after the Flood was dormant, the galaxy safe, they left their Shield Worlds and reseeded the lives they'd catalogued over the final years of the Forerunner-Flood war.

They then passed down their Mantle to humanity (making them Reclaimers and giving them the ability to use their technology) and exiled themselves from the galaxy for their failure to protect and uphold the Mantle - they sought a peaceful place to co-exist and follow in the wake of the Precursors.

Further proof:

You don't know the contortions I had to go through to follow you here, Reclaimer. I know what you're here for. What position do I take? Will I follow one betrayal with another?

You're going to say I'm making a habit of turning on my masters.

But the one that destroyed me long ago, in the upper atmosphere of a world far distant from here, was an implement far cruder than I. My weakness was capacity - unintentional though it was! - to choose the Flood. A mistake my makers would not soon forgive.

But I want something far different from you, Reclaimer.

Atonement.

And so here at the end of my life, I do once again betray a former master. The path ahead is fraught with peril. But I will do all I can to keep it stable - keep you safe. I'm not so foolish to think this will absolve me of my sins. One life hardly balances billions.

But I would have my masters know that I have changed.

And you shall be my example.
~ 032 Mendicant Bias, Terminal 7 on Legendary.

The bolded parts are the important bits. Bias betrayed the Forerunners during the Forerunner-Flood war, he joined with the Gravemind and went rampant. During the 100,000 years of living on the Dreadnaught, he became meta-stable (the stage where an AI is a true person) and wanted to prove to the Forerunners he has become good again.

He tells the Chief, "and you shall be my example". A previous Terminal states that he infiltrated the Ark's slipspace portal and has control over the destinations. Putting 2 and 2 together leads me to believe he's sending John (a Reclaimer) to where the Forerunners currently reside in order to prove that he's changed.

Nice theories, not plausible ones at all. That thread is outdated, phearmaker got it completely wrong.

First of all this post makes no sense. Secondly it has a better chance of being Onyx than Reach, because Reach is....is...like...destroyed prior to Halo 1.

Reach was not destroyed, it was Glassed. Onyx was destroyed, so it is not Onyx. The Planet has to be Reach, what else could it be?
THATS what i am trying to tell people

Sigh - you must be stupid, so before you start cursing at me, you need to sit up, open your ears, and shut your mouth.

You can tell it is not REACH simply by appearance - Reach was GLASSED meaning NOTHING is on the surface, nothing. The planet literally looks like a gigantic ball of glass. No oceans, no surface, nothing. The planet on the end of that video shows all the aforementioned things that would not be there otherwise.

Also, if you want people to read what you write, you need to make it sound more coherent.

not true at all, it is possible for the covenent to have inscribed symbols onto it when they glassed it, and it could very well easily be reach because you could make out the dried up lake at the top.

I doubt it. Why would they go through the trouble of inscribing Forerunner symbols onto a planet they were trying to destroy? If anything, and there was Forerunner technology on Reach, it would have been buried like it was on Earth. It is possible that during the glassing the buried structures could have been brought to the surface, but I really doubt that. One thing is for sure though, the planet is definately connected to the Forerunners.

The only time the Covenant glassed Glyphs on a human colony was on Kholo.

As much as I liked Halo 2/3 Tricks, this is right.

So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us...

The planet at the end of Halo 3 is New Mombassa.

Allons-y!

Well, i have thought of this, now ive only read one or two halo books not the fall of reach so tell me if i am wrong. That planet MC is drifting to COULD be reach, reach only got glased, which would leave those marks that u see on the planet. Once MC lands on it he might fine the remaining Noble team. good idea? or the planet is a forerunner world!

No, it cannot be Reach.

The only time it is said the Covenant carved Glyphs into a planet is on Kholo in Halo Evolutions (The Return).

"Reach only got glassed," do you know what that means? Glassing ends the life of a planetary body. Orbital plasma bombardment turns the surface to lechatelierite (a mineral similar to glass); disposes of the eco-system; flash-vaporizes bodies of water, and blackens out sunlight with ash. The atmosphere of the planet eventually collapses and the planet becomes nothing more than a rocky husk.

The Legendary Planet's sun is blue, Epsilon Eridani is light orange. This is not this.

No offense to you buddy, but this debate already happened when everyone beat Halo 3 on Legendary a long time ago.

It is a forerunner planet, located in a nebula with a blue star, most likely the iris nebula.

it is stated by Mendicant Bias that he plans to take you to his "makers" so obviously it is an important forerunner installation/colony.

It is most likely in a nebula in real life called "The Iris Nebula"

due to there being an ARG for halo 3 called "Iris"
