I don't understand, I had the original box before the E3 problems and did not have trouble playing the revised H2 with that same box. I don't believe they came out with a new original box and the 360 didn't play the revised H2 any better than the original (except the graphics were better). Please elaborate.
Also, feel free to type as much history as you can stand, we love H2 history.
No, I believe we have a misunderstanding here. I'm talking about them having to replace the XBox on stage when they first tried to demonstrate Halo 2 publicly at E3 for the first time (the real-time demo of 'Earth City').
It overheated on stage, so they had to replace it, that's all I'm trying to say. I'm not referring to any revised Xbox versions. Although on that note, the XBox itself did have several revisions.
Llamasoft
1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6a, 1.6b
1.0 has a fan on one of the heatsinks attached to the motherboard, it is also the only one with a USB daughterboard.
1.1 is identical to its predecessor but sports a passive heatsink and the controller ports no longer need a daughterboard.
1.2-1.5 have an ATX connector and can be further distinguished by the video encoder that was used
(located at back of board near video connector).
1.2-1.3 Connexant Video Encoder (LPC header 1.3-1.5 were missing L-frame, one of the signals the cheapmod and other chips used)
1.4-1.5 Focus Video Encoder 1.5 had additional rebuild points missing in the LPC header, if no continuity from pin 2 and ground it is a 1.5
1.6a/b Xcalibur Video Encoder
1.6A has Samsung RAM
1.6B has Hynix RAM
I have a 1.0. The various revisions also had varying HDD sizes, from 4GB to 8GB. The only association these revisions have with Halo 2 is that the later versions with the newer RAM and Video Encoder suffered less from the texture 'pop-in' that we all know and love.
Again, all I'm saying is that the demonstration XBox overheated on stage, so they had to replace the one on stage with a backup unit, that's all I'm trying to say.
Hopefully that should clear things up.

I thought the history was; MS was pushing Bungie to finish the E3 version and Bungie discovered the game would not play so they rushed a revised version.
Correct. Well, it didn't play as well as they'd hope it would, performance-wise. All of the E3 demo was merely smoke and mirrors, which is why the player on stage rarely turns around, as the city is literally being deleted behind him in order to free up RAM for the next area.
My theory is that Bungie simply went back and re-tuned the Combat Evolved engine. I have some evidence that may prove this, but it's mostly speculation. You can judge for yourself by looking at the HUD of any build later than the first E3 demo, you'll see that it's italicised like Combat Evolved and that other elements like the HUD weapon icons, the announcer's voice, the way objectives are announced (like 'Flag Taken') and the lack of mêlée lunge, are all from Combat Evolved.
