After exploring the surroundings for a day, I reflect on the fading sun, sinking below the line between earth and sky... The orb of fire seems to remind me of something, but I can't remember what... it begins to frustrate me, so I think harder. I strain to find the memory that eludes me, when suddenly I catch a flash, almost a vision of... something. I tumble down a dark hole, my body stretching out of proportions, my mind fading. Then a light, coming from within me. I don't understand it, but it expands, purging the darkness and my pain. Relief comes... I am free.
I awake with a start to find myself on the floor where I stood before, now long after sunset. My mind is uneasy, and my energy is returning, so I begin to walk, observing the rising moon. It casts an almost eerie glow on my figure, pacing anxiously and thinking. A second moon begins to rise, and lost in thought I barely notice until I turn at last to view their illuminated forms, and a thought comes to me... One almost casts a blue tint upon the planet, while the other remains a stoic grey. I see a man with a grim face, the light of those very moons now contained in his eyes... constantly shifting, constantly observing, constantly perceiving something beyond my vision. His eyes close and he tumbles into darkness. I realize in an instant that it is me... the same scenario plays out as I had seen it before, but this time I view myself. Then the light comes. What before gave me release is now revealed as a kind of sickening heat that singes me, and as I turn away for an instant, blinded by the light, I look back to see... nothing. I open my eyes, and the moons have changed position. The night grows old, yet still I tire not. I wonder of this vision. Is this my death? Why then am I here? The questions cease for a moment as I take quiet pleasure in the ocean breeze and the tranquil view, testament to the resounding peace of this world... I soak it all in for a while, and resolve to think of such things later.
