You jelly?

I don't understand why people keep asking other people if they are a sugary substance used to spread on bagels and toast.

You're right OP, that's totally Bungie's fault, and not the fault of your ISP, or potentially your own. That would be impossible.

Host is determined by location, not connection speed.

Its a basic Halo fact, in MLG competitions host is rotated between teams because it is considered to be a disadvantage.

They actually switch host because it's advantageous to be host. Thus, the higher seeded team gets to host more games than the lower seeded team. That's how it's been done for a few years.

This is incorrect, there is a slight aim-assist and hitbox advantage off-host to counter host advantage. Whilst you'd imaagine that off-host whilst on lan doesn't really need the extra help, it has it anyway.

Anyone who has played lan, me included, will tell you that it is horrible, its harder to aim and you don't have the latency advantage.

To reiterate, it your off-host on a host in another country, of course its a disadvantage, but if you're playing on a host in the same city chances are you have an advantage.

To quote Chig, a halo 3 pro:
'have you guys even competed on LAN with host? it is the WORST thing. Its actually a pretty big DISadvantage being host.'

Im buying reach for one the bullet are hit scan which is way closer to real life, two bungie has improved match making, three its their last game which fixes most of the problems that halo 3 had, four its halo Ce + reamped and 1000 times better, and five its halo.

For the other my connection is fin I rarely lag out or lag but when it comes to playing someone who is the host problem can effect the whole game. I remeber watching a video after a match and saw that when I first fired the shotgun the first shot didnt even register but the second did due to the other person having host.

From Cyro to Meta

Its not Bungie's fault you have a bad connection.

  • 08.30.2010 7:18 PM PDT

Angel

once again I dont have bad connection and two host is not based off connection its location. Get your facts right.

You may not have the bad connection, but someone in the game does. it's not bungie's fault.

You are the one who needs to get their facts right. It is not Bungie's fault one bit that you have a bad connection (or the other team has a better connection/someone in the game has a bad connection). Or that you are just plain bad and cant hit your shots.

I understand how you can say its not their fault but tell me when I set it to prefer good connection then over and over again there is someone with bad connection why even have that prefer choice?

No said the host has no advantage, since you have issues reading I think you may want to refrain from calling people idiots. The Host advantage in this game is negligible at best. If it makes you guys feel better to complain then feel free. Nothing in this game is that bad that it tips the scales in one persons favor. They are pitfalls that come with any online based game. Stop being so dramatic and over exaggerating.

Hiho host kid.

You clearly don't play off-host much if you think it's all the same, lmao.

And Dino is talking about very close locations, not halfway across the country like most people tend to get. When you're east-coast, it doesn't matter as much because probably half the Halo population is playing in that area anyway (at least according to the in-game location distribution), but if you're west coast then you're constantly getting Florida or NY host and you get 8-shots at best.

I always hear NY kids cry like it's the apocalypse when they get Cali host, yet the west coast guys are getting that kind of lag every second game.

Then I guess you have terrible luck.

In MLG events they play LAN, which means there won't be any host problems at all...correct? I doubt they switch hosts between teams, because if im not mistaken, there is no host problems when you're LANing.
They do switch host, but just so 1 team doesnt have the advantage of host.

Hiho, learn how to read. I said it isnt as big a deal as people are making it and in many games it is negligible.

False. You said host advantage is "non-existent," but gg trying to backtrack.

Posted by: Noodie5
You want host advantage, go play that, then you will see what a bad advantage really is.

Yeah, GoW is definitely worse by a LOT, which is why I don't care about host advantage in Halo. Bungie has done an amazing job making it tolerable and I also find it quite ridiculous when people come here making these kind of threads.

However, saying that there is NO advantage is just ignoring the simple physics. Until someone discovers how to travel faster than light, there will ALWAYS be a host advantage... unless Bungie does something retarded like remove aim assist all-together for host.

Posted by: Noodie5
And for the record, this hit scan, is better, no doubt. But a lot of you ignorant morons are going to come into the forums complaining THE VIDEO SHOWED MY BULLET HIT HIM IN THE FACE AND HIS MISSED WHY DID I DIE WTF!!!

Hit scan, the bullet you see on screen is nothing more than a ghost and is not indicative of what is actually happening in game. Combined with lag and latency and a lot of the sissies on here are going to cry a river. The bullets on screen do not represent what is actually happening and a lot of people are going to be whining.

And do not even bother trying to dispute what I just said, it is FACT. Go ahead and look it up for yourself. Just watch, itll be a baby fest.

I didn't say anything against hitscan... you're 100% right about that part, lol.

Believe.

Don't worry there will be less host advantage in Reach.

If host has no advantage then why do people bridge for it?

If host has no advantage then why do people bridge for it?

In host to near-host games, the off-host players have an advantage. In host to far-host games, host has the advantage. There is a certain distance where the effects are equal.
