I have a Dell 4600C,and this is the only card that will fit in my comp. Is this card worth getting to run games like Halo, and Half-Life 2 with all of the effects? Cli ck

That can't be the only card that will fit in your comp. It is ok, but you can certainly find better.

Thats not the only card that can fit your computer. That card is an AGP 4x/8x interface, so if you look on any videocard that has an agp 4x/8x interface it should work.

And no, that card wont do any good at all for games like halo or half life 2. You wouldnt be able to turn on ANY effects with that card, and you'd have to keep all the settings low. If you want to be able to play the game with the settings at high, with a 1280 x 1024 resolution, your looking to spend at LEAST $200-250.

here is MY VIDEO CARD and if that seems expensive, it has come down in price. It plays most games with the settings maxed, and plays halo pc with everything maxed resolution 1280 x 1024 with an average framerate of about 120fps

If you want to get decent settings (1024 x 768 resolution) and settings medium and high, your looking somewhere more along these lines. HERE the only problem with this card is that it only has a 128 bit memory interface instead of 256, and the speeds are lower. its a nice card, but probably cant get the settings maxed out and not seem choppy.

When I say some cards won't fit, I mean that the computer won't close when I put in the card. That happened with the 9800 pro i got. thanks for the help.

You got a 4600c? I hope you were actually low on space to buy the small one. You shouldn't buy smaller cases "because you can".

This is really off topic and newbish but what is the difference between a 128mb video card and a 256mb card?

Where I have the comp on my desk, there is very little room, and when I got it, i didn't plan on playing games on it(Since I have an Xbox), it was pretty much going to be for music mixing and recording stuff for my band.

128mb and 256mb refers to the amount of memory on the videocard. The more it has, the faster, and well more info it is able hold and put out.

256 > 128, therefore 256 is better.

256 MB is becoming the preferred amount for newer games these days. Even 512 MB will help prepare you for even higher detailed games.

Have you ever thought of putting a tower computer on the floor?

No room on the floor, the desk is up against the wall, and i can't move the desk because I have nowhere else in the room to put it, all of my guitar stuff is everywhere, and it takes up alot of space. The computer is in a soundproof recording room that I have.

Dude thats not gonna work out. Most computers are meant for specifically one thing, like gaming, in your case music recording, workstation (for programs like cad, and 3d rendering/game design programs,), basic internet use/whatever. Dont expect to be able to play a game like half life 2 with high settings with that computer, unless you get a better videocard.

The problem with most people who think they know about computers is the whole Ghz throwoff thing. For instance, AMD's are widely accepted in the gaming community as being better for games. If you know about computers you will agree (especifically the 64 bit series), while intels are better for workstations(specifically xeons and p4's). AMD's have much lower clockspeeds than Intel, yet still manage to benchmark way higher in 3dmark and pcmark. For instance i have an AMD 64 3200+ which is 2.2ghz (which means it performs like a pentium 4 3.2ghz), and in my parents computer they have an Intel p4 3.2 ghz processor. So in theory the Intel should perform faster because it has a higher clockspeed, but since the internal architecture of the AMD is designed differently (mainly the 1600mhz fsb), it is able to achieve faster speeds and more calculations. My AMD which is only 2.2ghz scored on average 500-800 points higher in pcmark05 and 3dmark05 than my parents intel which is 3.2 ghz.

Basically what im saying is that with your pc, dont expect to be able to do alot of gaming especially because of the videocard you have. Im not trying to flame, im just stating the facts.
