when people boot others from parties because they arent trying, theres something up with it.

its a social playlist. anyone who actually takes it seriously is pretty sad.

You got booted because you weren't trying when you needed to. If we were just playing randoms it would be fine but we were versing a team.

And then I saw you playing with my friend who you left with, in a MLG custom game...

lol who tryhards in a custom?

Shut the hell up, Halo is my world

squad battle is a terrible play list, and SBTB isn't much better.

Allons-y!

The Reason, in ranked playlists, there are only Boosters 50s derankers and so on. People dont want to go into ranked an then all the time from those people, so they go in to social playlists. I especially like Big Team because its like a huge warzone, and that is awsome

This^

Look at the amount of SBTB tryhards

They HTO on us and still barely manage to even make me go negative. And it was pretty funny that I only get out BR'd or killed by 1 guy less than 5 times. All my deaths were mainly from being teamshot off my spawn, killed by a warthog, or getting shotgunned by some dude camping on our objective like a pro.

Apparently SBTB must really matter to them.

why do people take it so seriously?

I never figured that out either.

Last night I played 3 games. In all three games, the entire opposing team quit out in the loading screen, or within the first couple minutes of the game. It was a complete waste of my limited Halo time.

I'm all for everyone having their own definitions of 'fun' in this game, but I can't for the life of me figure out how people enjoy a playlist like that enough to get 10,000+ XP in some cases. I found myself losing interest after like 1 game.

Out of those 3 games I think we may have matched 1 or 2 people with a 50.

So much negativity.
In all seriousness now people. When you get a BTB in Sandtrap Valhalla or Avalaunch (Heavy) and everyones connection is up to par. There's no comparison to any other game (other than SWAT) because it's so much fun. everything running smoothly makes any game better.
The only problem with heavy maps is the Spartan Laser. especially on Sandtrap. 1 laser either end. Both have enough ammo to take out every enemy vehicle. So you're left with people fighting on foot. Which totally defeats the object of Sandtrap heavy. I grab a Banshee and immediately get destroyed. No fun.

Sandtrap Heavies is stupid.

I've always liked the gameplay BTB provides. There are many different possibilities and strategies that can work well with that many people, and the good maps provide for multiple playstyles and avenues of attack. My favorite type of game in Halo 3 has always been a closely fought BTB game.

Personally, I find the games and some of the maps highly enjoyable. Unfortunately, the playlist itself suffers from some problems that can often make it more annoying than enjoyable. First of all is the population. The list has always had a decent following, but never a spectacular one like Social Slayer and Team Slayer usually have. In recent months, it has been dwindling. Having a low pool of players usually means that truskill gets thrown out the window, and matches can be extremely lopsided, and to make matters worse, you are likely to get the same match-up several times in a row.

The second problem is the quitting. Many times, much of a team will quit in the pre-game because they see they are out ranked. I can't say I blame them, years of douches stat padding on low ranks has taken it's toll on the list, and people would rather move on to a game worth their time than sit though 20 minutes of getting killed with a gauss hog.

Third, when you get 16 people together, half of which usually have strict nats, wireless internet, and a private chat connection going on the side, you get some incredibly laggy games.

I've always loved the gameplay, but I also find the the annoyances of the list to be too much at times.

I used to hate it, but now I love it. If you count Squad Battle as BTB, at least. Its largely the same gametypes & maps, but the connection dependency problems & host advantage are mitigated by smaller team sizes.

Plus, it incorporates some Slayer inspired elements like Construct, Ghost Town, and Isolation, which all play relatively well with the exception of Construct.

The main problem for me. The majority of my past 15-20 games in the playlist have featured the entire opposing team quitting in the pre-game lobby, or within minutes of the start of the game. They don't even bother trying to play.

Personally, I have never seen the fabled 'invisible trueskill' system at work in this playlist. Ever. I never match another party of people around my global trueskill. Even when the population was higher. I've always felt the social pairing system was flawed. Only in double XP gametypes do I feel like it functions as intended.

=======

IDK.

SBTB is ocassionaly fun but everytime I try playing it I'm reminded of its innumerable flaws. Flaws that aren't really prevalent in it's ranked counterpart, Squad Battle.

I cant really bash people for playing BTB, because really theyre doing the same thing I do with Team Slayer. When I search solo, I get asked by people all the time "Why are you still playing slayer, you're just ruining it for everyone else trying to get 50s" I've also received a lot of rage messages because of it, but I'm just playing what I like to play, just like the BTB people, the only difference is TS is ranked.

Out of those 3 games I think we may have matched 1 or 2 people with a 50.

1) You play with all 50s making each game a cake walk
2) Due to number 1 and the fact that you don't have much exp in that playlist, you have a low hidden trueskill, thus propagating the issue that you match lower skilled opponents

Its negative reinforcement at its finest. If you want a challenge, then I'd suggest building up your experience by playing as a random or with bad teams and winning a bunch. Try carrying a bad team against a better team.

Personally, I enjoy BTB because I like the chaos of 16 players, the maps are cool, and vehicles are fun. I admittedly hate playing with a team full of generals in regular MM because there's no challenge, except on the rare occasions that I match another similar team. BTB for teams of 50s should be done in scheduled custom games. That way you won't have to play Heavies or games that become total standoffs like slayer on Avalanche.

Just curious, do you really think that effects the restrictions?

7 people in my party had at least 1,000+ XP in the playlist, with some individuals having excess of 10,000 XP in the playlist, literally. Do you think we don't get a competitive match only because I'm in there? Not being facetious, I'm just curious. Its not like I have 2 XP, I have almost 300. I would think the system should recognize that when I have 20,000+ collective XP in my party, that matching us against players of a significantly lower global trueskill & guests is not conducive to a quality MM experience for either team.

Consider me a skeptic, but if social restrictions really worked, we wouldn't get games like that so frequently. I have nearly 300 XP in the playlist so I don't think I would have a 'low invisible trueskill' by this point.

BTB for teams of 50s should be done in scheduled custom games. That way you won't have to play Heavies or games that become total standoffs like slayer on Avalanche.

I use Squad Battle as substitute for BTB. I consider them similar, except that Squad Battle has less problems with lag/latency, more variety in the maps & gametypes, and the strictly tailored matchmaking restrictions of a ranked playlist that I prefer.

I'm pretty sure the restrictions are much more relaxed in BTB due to the number of players. Tighter restrictions would cause the matching process to take way too long. As I see it the biggest problem for you to enjoy a challenge in BTB are your teammates. Imagine playing Team Slayer 30 high with your current crew, game after game. You'd be waiting a pretty long time to find another team that could put up a decent fight.

I totally understand the Squad angle and that makes the most sense. I love that play list too. You can enjoy most of the better aspects of BTB w/o its inherent flaws. The only problem I have with it are my friends (who I like playing with) are not highly ranked. The wide discrepancy in our ranks, along with the tighter skill restrictions, makes it nearly impossible to find a game. The few times I've played with similarly ranked teammates we got cheated on every other game.

I know you've offered team picking to me, and I've given it a try with others (unfortunately it was with Europeans and I played lagged out), but just like you, I like playing with my current FL so Squad is not always an option.

Oh yeah the other reason you got booted was because you rage quit on us. And he left the party open so you could rejoin. He wanted to boot you as soon as you made the retarded colonel comment again which he did and was hilarious.

Doesn't matter, you tried in that custom game. Which was pointless because it was just a Custom game. The whole game before you rage quit you were talking about how people are trying so hard it's just Social...yet then you go join a MLG custom game.
