We march to the drums of the damned.

I need help doing this, I recently got Halo CE for my laptop (which is pretty crappy) and the touch pad isn't really good for playing, so I'd like to be able to use my XBOX 360 controler with the pc. Anyone know how to do this?

We march to the drums of the damned.

Well two days ago my sister's boyfriend used his PS3 controler for it but he had to download some software to make it work.

Im not entirely sure if you can do it for halo PC, but ive used it for many other games.
As long as you have the play and charge kit you can plug it up and the software is already on the controller, just sync it to your computer and go wild.

Sorry but that's incorrect, the plug and play kit/charger only charges the 360 controller, it doesn't send any data. If you wish to use a wireless 360 controller you have to buy the $20 wireless pc adapter.

If you use a wired 360 controller (like I do) then just plug it in before you play Halo CE, let the drivers install automatically, and then boot the game up. Once in the game go to Setting->Gamepads->360 controller. Hope that helps and clears up some confusion.

Well I'm probobly just going to buy an adapter for it, so it'll be easier. Only problem is the game has a little bit of lag time because my laptop is slow. Anyway to speed it up?

First thing to do is make sure when you're gaming that you have your power settings on "High Performance". To do this Left click on the battery icon on your tool bar (bottom right corner of your screen), then select "More Power Options" Then high performance (may be hidden on that screen, might have to click an arrow to show it). This will generally give you more FPS in the game.

You could also adjust your video settings inside the game, such as turning the graphics from high to low on everything (and if it allows it choose "off"). Now this will make the game look bad remember or somewhat bad.

And last but not least, you could change the screen resolution in the game lower. Lower resolution = better performance but looks worse. This kinda goes with the last option but I try not to mess with this.

Hope that helps, PM if you need anything else.

When I cout my blessings, I count you twice.

Ok, I just did the same thing :)
You need to have a wired controller though.
That's the only way it'll work.

Then you need to go into settings -> gamepads.
Then you need to enable the Xbox 360 controller.

Now you need to set what buttons do what, that's in controls/mice + keyboard or something.

You have to click across to the controller.. then it should be a simple set up of choosing what buttons you want to use.

It really is the awesomez using a controller :) :)

How to configure the controller for Halo 1 in particular. Seems like it would be obvious how to do it, but a few things should be be left unassigned so as not to conflict with other commands assigned to the same button. Note a couple things in advance though. Firstly there is no aim assist in Halo 1 PC, so aiming is more unforgiving than the console versions, or Halo 2 PC. Secondly, Halo 1 PC doesn't seem to support full analog stick movement, and so doesn't recognize the difference between moving the stick only a little and moving it all the way. Therefore, you can't make subtle aiming adjustments, nor walk slowly. They're not huge deals, but you will notice them. Just keep them in mind as you're playing.

Actually, Halo PC does recognize the difference. If used in Campaign, the controller will work perfectly like the Xbox version. If you move the stick slowly, your character will move slowly. However, the MP part of the game does not do that, so your character will run at full speed whenever you push the stick just a little. I'm guessing it's just to balance out the gameplay against those playing with a keyboard.

Oh, I've never tried it in campaign. It makes sense that it would be a balancing thing. I wondered why a 2003 game would still be using digital stick movement. I assume Halo 2 PC allows analog movement in multiplayer though?
