Subject: Hitscan: Which weapons use it?

I was wondering which weapons use hitscan. It is my understanding that hitscan weapons do not require you to lead the target. This reduces the skill required to use these weapons at distance. I wanted to know if the Sniper or DMR used hitscan.

Hey there! If you like Star Wars, and would like to be part of my group Mos Eisley then feel free to join!

I'm assuming that all the weapons in Reach use it, but the DMR and the Sniper are the only weapons where it will have a pronounced effect.

Personally, I'm glad they reverted to the Halo 2 system, because the H3 BR spread is extremely annoying, especially at long range.

But you had to lead people in H2 for snipers at least

No weapon in Halo 3 is a hitscan weapon. The Spartan Laser is the closet thing to one, however.

The laser is pretty much hitscan for all intents and purposes. Only at the longest possible shot on Sand Trap is it even close to relevant.

Only some Reach weapons are hitscan. The plasma-based weapons and shotgun, rockets etc are not.

Beam Rifle, Sniper Rifle and Sentinel Beam are all hitscan I believe.

In Halo Reach every weapon is hitscan unless specifically designed not to be (Fuel Rod Cannon, Rocket Launcher, etc).

The sniper and beam rifles are relevantly non-hitscan at about 2/3 Valhalla distance. The sentinel beam is probably close to the laser, but since it is not in matchmaking, I'm not sure. It's definitely not hitscan.

So Sniper is hitscan in Reach?

Yes. In the Beta, it wrecked, because movement speed was very low and it was hitscan.

Yeah, I liked it too. Seemed to make it take more skill shooting at long range, but whatever, I 'll have to adjust to Reach I guess.

But with a little bit of latency, it throws it off. It's only reverting back to hitscan because it is a lot more consistent than actual projectiles. Hitscan will help reduce the amount of people getting headshots or shots that don't register.
