No matter how many seals are killed by sharks a year, it never seems to be enough :D

Prologue...

Captain James Sterling, or Jim, looked in the mirror. He had slicked back his jet black hair, and donned his dark green dress uniform. He had a blind date tonight, supposedly with a real knockout, and this leave he was determined to spend it with a girl, as he often did. He liked to make the best of the time he had away from plasma fire. Also, he was quite lonely, not that he let himself know it.

Jim examined his face, a straight bridged nose, his high cheek bones, and that chiseled jaw he prided himself in. Jim was narcissistic, he had been told how good looking he was by multiple women along with multiple offers for a career as a model, and it had truly gotten to his head. However, it raised his confidence through the roof. "Damn Jimmy," He smiled into the mirror, his pearly white teeth reflecting back at him, "You are looking fine."

The Marine pinned the UNSC insignia onto the collar of his dress jacket, and exiting his bathroom, he slipped on his recently shined black dress shoes. These he loved almost as much as himself. Taking a look at his bed, Jim smiled. If everything went as planned tonight, when the sun arose this object would be as disheveled as can be.

Jim quickly moved the counters on the left and right side of the bed a safe distance away. He wanted minimal collateral damage tonight. He realized he had forgotten cologne, and rushing to the bathroom he sprayed a cloud of it in the doorway, and walked through the aroma back into the bedroom. He walked into his kitchen, then out of his apartment.

Checking his watch Jim realized he might just be late. He rushed into the elevator, and hit the ground floor button. "Alright, get your game face on Jim." The captain's shoes clicked as they stepped onto the white marble floor of the lobby. He stayed in a very nice place, which was always a plus. He passed by a gilded fountain by the entrance of the building, then walked out onto the street.

It was a warm night on Reach. Jim loved his home planet. He was born there, he lived there, and he was hoping to die there, from means other than a hail of burning plasma. He hailed a cab, and getting in told the driver the address of the restaurant.

As the Marine watched the buildings go by, he realized that this leave could be his last, that he might never see this city, this planet again. Jim quickly shook the thought out of his head. This was going to be a fun night, not one spent pondering over how or when he may die. He had had too many of those.

The driver of the cab slammed on the breaks and honked his horn. "Jesus!" Jim shouted, "I'm not paying you to kill me." He ended with a snarl.

"My apologies sir." The cab driver replied. The captain shook his head, letting out a sigh. When the ride was over Jim paid and tipped out of an inner generosity he disguised as carelessness. Jim wasn't all that bad. His attitude was a sort of shield he set up around himself after everything he had gone through, and it worked for its purposes.

Leaving the taxi, he walked into the fancy restaurant. As soon as he entered the noise of dining filled the air. The "Clanks" and "Tinks" of silverware, and that singular blur of noise formed by the mass of conversations. "Hello." A blonde, curly haired waitress said to Jim with a smile.

"Hi," the man responded, "Table for two, under Sterling."

"Oh yes, right this way," Jim followed the waitress to a table by a long window looking at a busy street, shops and other places to eat on the other side, "Would you like to wait or order now?"

"I'll wait." Jim gave the waitress a quick smile.

"Would you like anything to drink in the mean time?"

"No," the Marine said quickly, "Thank you."

"Okay then, see you soon!" The woman turned and walked away. Jim looked out the window. Staring up at the small portion of the sky he could see, something strange appeared. It looked as if something were entering the atmosphere, something big. It was probably nothing to be worried about. Orbital defenses would have taken care of any threat before it got into the atmosphere.

"Hello." A soft, feminine voice said.

"Oh," Jim turned from the window, "I'm..." His mouth froze.

The girl went wide eyed for a moment, then frowned. "You have got to be kidding me."

"Beth," the Marine said quietly, "I-"

"Save it. I'm leaving." The girl turned around, her long, light brown hair dancing behind her.

"Beth wait!" Jim pleaded, getting out of his chair. The man's once lover stopped in her tracks, but didn't turn around. Her arms were steady by the sides of her red dress, waiting for a bad excuse, but it didn't come. "Look Beth, I know I screwed up, and I am completely guilty. I know you're mad at me, but I'm going back to the front lines soon."

"What do you want from me?" The girl questioned, her soft lips moving with hesitance.

Jim put a hand on Beth's shoulder, sending a shiver down her spine. "Just stay for dinner, thats all."

"You know what will happen if I stay," The woman closed her eyes, remembering the intimate moments they had shared together, "And I'll regret it, I know I will." She turned around as Jim attempted to move in front of her.

"Won't you just look at me?" the captain begged.

Beth couldn't tell if he was sincere or playing her. The one thing she did know was that if she stayed here, Jim would win her over, and she wasn't about to let that happen. "No."

"I'm begging you! Just sit Beth."

"I said no." She persisted.

"Please," Jim managed to get in front of her, "Open your eyes, look at me."

Beth tried to fight it, but her eyes slowly opened. There he was. That face, those eyes, haunting her constantly. "Don't," She said solemnly, "Just let me be."

"I've been through so much Beth, and I won't lie to you, I have spent time with others since we parted, but I was just looking for someone who would give me the feeling you did."

He was playing her, Beth knew it. His words were obviously fake, or were they? She moved a hand out to push him away, but it froze as soon as her fingertips touched his chest. "You wronged me." She said quietly, her lips staying parted ever so slightly.

"I know I did," Jim moved forward, placing a hand on each of Beth's slender arms making her turn her head away, "I miss you Beth." He moved even closer, his warm breath washing across the side of Beth's neck.

"No!" Beth shouted, half to Jim and half to herself. The woman pushed Jim away, turned, and walked furiously towards the exit.

Jim chased her out the door and onto the sidewalk where she was hailing a taxi. "Beth I didn't mean to-"He stopped speaking. He was hearing an odd noise, and by the look on Beth's face she was too. It was like a shrieking, but not that of a human. It was getting closer and closer.

Multiple cars sped into sight, coming from the direction of the noise. What was going on? The shriek was loud now, very loud. What happened next was more frightening than anything Jim had seen on the front lines.

A horde of large four legged creatures poured out of the street the cars were racing away from. Their shrieks were terrifying, a war cry unfathomable. They looked like nothing the soldier had seen before.

Jim couldn't get a good look from his current distance, but he could see that they had tails, and a sort of wing on each side of their body that they seemed to be using to propel themselves as they ran.

Closer to their heads were two curved blades. They seemed to have some sort of armor, a carapace maybe? The man didn't have much more time to think, because just then the mass of creatures split at the intersection, still pouring out of the original road.

Beth was frozen in fear. Captain Sterling shook off his shock, and smashing a parked car's window he reached his arm inside and unlocked it. "Get in!" He yelled to Beth. She complied.

Adrenaline coursed through the Marine's veins, and with effort he was able to tear a panel off of the dashboard of the car. He quickly hotwired it, and shutting his door he pulled away from the sidewalk and floored the pedal. "What are they?!" Beth's voice quivered.

"I don't know. They could be Covenant, or maybe something wo-"The intersection Jim was heading for became flooded with the creatures. They were boxed in. The only way out, was through.

Im enjoying it dude. but u need to make some corrections. When u were describing the creatures you said for legs, make sure you change it to four.
Also when Beth and Jim are talking:
"Just stay for dinner, thats all."
"There you go with your lies again. you know what will happen if i stay."

I would take out "there you go with your lies again" it almost makes it a little confusing, and personally i think you would get a deeper impact if you just had: "You know what will happen if i stay."

Lastly i like it. But as much as i love fan fiction and cross over fiction i like a story that shows what would happen if two groups, like starcraft and Halo, ever met but wouldnt largely affect the plot of either one. this is just my opinion here, but some people just dont like the idea of an entire story they had come to know and love changed in the snap of a finger. For example if you were to move this from Reach to some completely unknown outer colony planet and make it so the events that transpire there dont affect the war or anyone else, then i think more people would like it. Keep up the good work though :)

^Don't worry. The storyline won't be changed. Once the Zerg get a foothold on a planet, they are very very hard to get rid of. When the Covenant attack, AND the zerg are there, Reach doesn't stand a chance. Not that it will end there.

I'll make those corrections now :)
