Subject: Alas, poor Yorick. Impossible achievement to get?

With Halo: Reach coming up fast, lots of people are making it their mission to snag as many achievements as possible/their last few remaining achievements(As I myself am doing). As you've probably guessed judging by the title, I'm having particular trouble getting the "Alas, poor Yorick" achievement. For those who don't know the requirements, you must get 3 oddball melee kills on a legendary map(I've also heard that mythic maps also work).

I've looked at the gametype appearance rates for playlists and the list of maps for said playlists at http://www.bungie.net/online/playlists.aspx. In every playlist I've checked, oddball is ALWAYS labeled "Skipped after veto" AND usually has the lowest percentage chance of appearing. For those who don't know "skipped after veto" means that if the first gametype and map combination chosen for a match is vetoed, any gametype tagged with "skipped after veto" is guarunteed to NOT appear as the next gametype for that match.

All that having been said, this weekend's double exp playlist gave me new hope for getting previously mentioned achievement. Hope that was shattered violently after playing said playlist all last night as I prayed dearly for an oddball match on any of the required maps for the achievement I've been actively attempting to acquire all week. Being tagged as "skipped after veto" essentially sets it in stone that if oddball is not selected as the first gametype for a match, it shan't be selected at all. That alone makes oddball an extremely hard gametype to come across, coupled with its low apperance percentage, and the fact that just about everyone likes to veto at the first sign of oddball...this achievement is close to, if not entirely impossible to attain.

As such, I've had an idea. Not one I expect to see much progress with, but an idea's an idea. I believe that for Halo 3's final double exp weekend before Halo: Reach launches, Bungie should attempt to invent some type of playlist that possibly creates ideal conditions for players to gain achievements in. Specifically around some of the harder to get achievements, and ones that don't appear often enough(like Alas, poor Yorick). Examples of such gametypes could include: Spartan laser default weapons in a free for all King of the Hill match(Two for one), Shotgun only matches on Citadel(Pull), Hammers on Assembly(Hammer Time), Swords on Heretic(Blades of Fury), and several other useful gametype and map combinations ideal for getting certain achievements out of the way.

Yes, this post is really long. I don't blame anyone who doesn't read the full thing(considering how lazy a majority of the worlds population is these days). But with luck, maybe something will be done to help myself and others to get those last few achievements out of the way before Reach hits.

Forever Forgers

Live and let live.

Actually, no. Those conditions will not make it easier to get the achievements.

Some may think that its easier in such games, but everyone will be trying to get it. Everyone will be on the exact same level weapon-wise. I cant really give rational arguments to prove my point, however i can tell you that in my experience Those specialised gametypes have never provided me with the relevant achievements.

Let this be a lesson for you when Reach DLC comes out. You need to grind those new achievements day one or you will get left behind. Not long after new achievements drop with DLC the playlist get all jacked up, and it gets harder to get "old" achievements.

Good luck.

I got it on a DXPW too and I think it was fiesta, it was kinda funny cause it was the first time I played Oddball too.

I have it. If Halo Reach is coming up, though, does it really matter if you have it or not?

I suppose ultimately it won't matter, but there's this certain sense of personal accomplishment in getting all the achievements. And I did manage to get all the original 1000 gamerscore of achievements before any of the dlc achievements hit. I'd like to be able to manage all the achievements again before I (most likely) set Halo 3 for good.

Let Slip The Dogs Of War.

It comes up a lot in Lone Wolves and usually doesn't get vetoed as much 40 high. That is how I got mine on Blackout :)

Also you could of achieved it the other week when 3 ball was the Double exp play list.

It also appears in Rumble pit just get a heap of friends together and play rumble pit until you come by it.

Actually, it does matter. If you use Halo Waypoint it tracks all of your Halo Gamerscore(Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo Wars) and the more total Halo Gamerscore you get, the higher total rating you get and you also unlock more Avatar Awards through Waypoint depending on how many achievements you have. Today, I actually finished the last 5 Firefight achievments I needed for ODST so now I have all the achievements for all Halo games and my Avatar is rockin' the sexy EVA Helmet

comebacks are my specialty, in Free-for-all. Teams are for people who can't take on more than one person at a time.

hey this guy looks like me :D but yeah back on track i don't think it really matters if you get the achievement or not, maybe if you get some Armour in reach maybe, but as mentioned before its probably a personal goal to get them all

It's not impossible. I've 75/75 GamerScore for Halo 3. Thus, I obtained the Achievement.

I've actually gotten it on several different accounts. So to answer your question, it is not impossible.

This would be kinda fun I guess, I could go for it. Never bothered to get achievements before, but I figure I might as well if they did this.... although they wouldn't =/

The title's meant to be an exaggeration... of course it isn't impossible, he means it's very very difficult/time consuming.

There are a few achievements like this one that require a specific weapon on specific map with ideal conditions of right place right time. I wouldnt say to make a playlist that is FFA with 16 players that has all the right conditions, but rather more weight for those types of maps and gametypes that will give you the oppurtunity.

You miss 100% of the shots you never take. Best to take it then, eh?

I've seen my family fade away, You've taken my whole life left me nothing to say. Sitting in silence with heaven above me i prayed every night by their graves. I search for closure i feel it no longer i can't turn my face away. I stand before you Ive seen what I've had to but now i leave your sight to avenge my family, I've taken my whole life there's nothing left to say.

I got it in team doubles. While on splitscreen. at a friends house on blackout

Mythic maps DO work. It's not impossible, just unlikely. Plus, because it's a paid-for achievement (that is, not one of the original 1000) Bungie is under no obligation to make it possible for you to unlock it.

It's not why I did it, it's how.

I got this achievement so long ago, I don't even remember what gametype it was in. I just picked up the ball and killed people with it.

I got it on the second game of blackout I played after I downloaded the Legendary pack. I love DLC FFA.

Hahaha, 7 on 7th. Actually, OP, you should totally do that. I say 7 on 7 is your best chance for Alas, Poor Yorick. (Ruling out 3 ball)

Good plan, BBQ. OP, I second that recommendation.

Rarity FTW

Difficult. Not impossible.

Why not stop by my File Share while you're here?

Only regret is I didn't play more of it.

If you haven't noticed by now, I'm sort of a jerk.

Rumble Pit is your freind.

I actually forgot where I got mine, but it was probably Rumble Pit/DLC FFA on Ghost Town.
