reply to al of you flaming....halo team gametypes are based aorund communication when it gets to a higher level. how can your team win if your team mates cant communicate because theyre in party chat. communication is key, without it you get killed/miss kills many times. thus probably losing the match. How can you communicate with teammates who are just there to annoy the hell out of you? I miss the days of Halo 2 when you could go into a game and get smooth cooperation from your team. This late in Halo 3's life, I just play for the sake of playing. I don't care if I win or not. Party chat lets me keep all the noisy people out of my head. Yes I agree party chat is damaging to team gametypes but as I said earlier...this late in Halo 3's life, I just don't care.
With that mindset, just about every decent person is now in party chat. Thank you very much... For social matches, that's fine and dandy. BUT for ranked matches, I think party chat should be disabled (not that it can be this late in Halo 3's life).
As mentioned before, there are people who boost using party chat and that language trick. Pretty rare though, so my main problem with chat is about the lack of communication with people who are TRYING to rank up. Yes, Halo 3 has been out for nearly 3 years now but keep in mind not everybody bought it on launch day. I recently played with a guy who bought Halo 3 a month ago. He's great at getting kills and keeping a positive K/D spread. The problem? He has no idea what the callouts are on any of the maps. Do you know why? Because his teammates were always either in party chat or did not have a mic.
For the most part, I play for fun. However, half of my fun is communicating with other players. Even if it's not about the game. Earlier today (Labor Day), I paired up with some dude and we mostly talked about his ex-girlfriend along with the occasional "sword room" and "top mid". THAT was fun.
So yeah, it's extremely unlikely Bungie will update Halo 3 to disable party chat in ranked matches. Same goes for anything else. The playlists have now been locked in I believe (except for the double exp lists). Reach comes out in a week and at least we'll have the option to search for chatty people or quiet people. In closing, PLEASE do us all a favor and do not play ranked Halo 3 matches while in a party chat. If you don't want to hear some 10 yearold kid whining about whatever, MUTE them. Don't punish the players who want to communicate with their teammates.
