I watched the announcement trailer again, and it says: "-neutralise adaptive parasitic life form: complete".
I think this could mean that the flood won't return. (after all, it's said by Bungie).
On the other hand, it can be a mistake, because it finds place in the storyline, and later in the story, it could always appear that the flood isn't entirely extinct.

YES! Exactly my point, Flood isn't coming back, no way no how, there is no possible way they can come back, only way is, they are on another Installation. BUT! they can't be because the Forerunners built Installation 04 to contain and study the Flood, they don't need 2 of them to do that so, FLOOD IS GONE, and Bungie better have a damn good reason to bring 'em back if they do.

But bungie did say that there would be a big twist in the story, which means that something like a new alien race or the halo being rebuilt.

EGM 2002

When asked if The Flood will be returning in Halo 2, Jason Jones (I think it was him) said that "The Flood and the Covenant have a lot of history; there's going to be some interesting stuff happening here"

If that's not proof that The Flood are returning, I haven't a clue what would be

Be prepared for the others to come on here and get all over this guys. I'm pretty sure the flood is returning. Bungie has been hinting at it. Plus there are all the other rings out there. Some other people will probably go into further detail...I'm too lazy to look anything up.

They can't be coming back unless Bungie can get themselves out of the hole they dug for themselves into. Unless the Flood found a way to live for God knows how long the time is going to be from Halo to Halo 2 without eating, drinking or breathing, then I'll agree. The reason I say no breathing is because the Atmosphere of Installation 04 was obviously destroyed along with Installation 04 because piece of Installation 04 wouldn't be able to have their own Atmosphere, that said, they have no air.

I think you will find that the objectives listed in the trailer are those present in Halo: conseqeuntly, ones that have been completed: the final objective is the starting objective of Halo 2, though it would be a fool that rules out the flood, and more objectives being added, especially as "Taking the fight to the covenant" was listed by one of the developers as part of the storyline.

Im just waiting for someone to say "OMG PUT THE FLOOD ON THE COVENANT HOMEWORLD"... though that would seem a feasible way for MC to strike a critical blow.

  • 05.03.2004 1:12 PM PDT

In the Halo 2 OXM last year it was said that the flood have a 90% chance of coming back. And plus, another Halo ring is confirmed- and when you have a Halo, you have the flood. Unless, that is, if the Halo Master Chief destroyed was a "Research Halo" of some sort (therefore it contained flood only for study)- then I guess that could explain why there may not be any more flood left.

But truth is, no one knows. We'll just have to find out.

The Master Chief emerged from his code. After seeing his dynamically lit realtime shadow, he went back for 9 more months of development.

Behold the power of the Originals, the Gods Axeone-Neurone.

Neutralize - to make ineffective

To neutralize the parasitic lifeform does not mean destroy. The flood can survive in a vaccum. They also still have the Truth & Reconciliation. So unless the Covenant completely destroy the flood, they are not gone. How could the Covenant not destroy them, you ask? Well with the MC stealing their capital ship, they may have been a bit distracted.

Everything on Halo was blown up, and even if they did live inside the ship, they still have no air. Even if they don't need air, they must need another type of gas like the Grunts need Methane. As for another Installation, the Flood wouldn't be on another one because thats what Installation 04 was built for, to study and contain the Flood, they don't need 2 Installations to do that. Why would the Forerunners go through all the hassle just to build another Installation to do the same as Installation 04? They weren't planning on a Installation that big to get blown up. Also they have no food, and Installation 04's Defence Mechanism was to destroy all life form so the Flood couldn't eat, which proves they needed food, but they don't have any.

Good lord, yes... the Truth and Reconcilliation. Perhaps the bad ship T&R will re-surface in the sequel. Maybe even in the capacity of my slowly forming "Flood the Covenant" theory. A wonderfully ironic Trojan horse, perhaps.

i think that when you fight on the covenant home world or other near by planets you will have to face more flood.

You won't face the flood, they were destroyed in the blast, and after just playing keyes and the maw i am sick of them. NO MORE FLOOD!

Another thing, no gravity! The Flood right now, if not dead, would be floating in space for millions of years not being able to do a single thing about it. There is no way the Flood are coming back from Installation 04. And if they started to land on another Planet or Installation, they would burn up in the Atmosphere, its all over no Flood would possibly survive from Installation 04, Bungie will have to think up something.

The flood ARE on other installations, you people read way to much into some things that are said, in the trailer, that whole intro thing is just a cool little montage, nothing really affecting the plot, really...come on.

How do you know the forunner didn't make another installation just to study the flood. How do you know every Halo installation wasn't designed to study the flood. You say they wouldn't have gone through the hassle of making another one, but how do you know it would be a hassle for them. Maybe for the forunner making a Halo installation is like a walk in the park.

How would floating around in space putting together a whole planet with a huge diameter and transporting water, mountains, grass and everything else be easy? Tell me what in the he1l you could have that could make that easy? A machine? A machine that is so big its makes everything easy, but would be way to hard to keep it under control from floating around in space? If there was another Installation built for the Flood, then how would they get off of it? And why would we go on it?

Yes, why don't we see how the Bungie gets themselves out of the mess they created for themselves and how they exactly bring the Flood back. I would like to see how they would get on Earth.

Well, you assume WAY to much....who says it HAS to be on Earth that they come to, you do go to other Forerunner installations in the game, just watch the bungie documentary on Halo 2 and save yourself from looking like an ass.
