I know the Elites are jealous of the Brutes and the Grunts look up to the Elites. But what about the relationships of the Prophets and Jackals or the Brutes and Grunts, how do they see each other???

The Grunts are forced soldiers so they pretty much watch only themselves. Everyone else above lookes down on the lower ranks. So Brutes must think Grunts are the scum of the earth equal to humans. The Prophets think the same of everyone else and so on.

I thought the Brutes were on their own with no respect to the covenant and just around to protect the Prophets

Grunts and Jackals despise one another, and think that their respective race is superior to the other.

They both fear the Elites, who rule in authority over both races on the battlefield and can kill a grunt or jackal on a whim.

Hunters are kind of a lone race who are always in pairs. The bond brothers always fight together and disregard anyone who gets in the way of them and their enemy, even Elites.

Brutes are kind of unknown at the moment as far as the Hierarchy goes. At the end of First Strike an Elite guard of the Prophet was surprised that such scum was allowed near the Holy One, so they seem to be lower on the chain than Elites.
However, when the Prophet thought of the Brute, he saw him as the perfect killing machine.

This can be explained because the Prophets and the Elites are actually equals. Elites are the military leaders of the Covenant, while Prophets find, research, and utilize the Forerunner technology. They are reverred so highly because they can understand the Godly forerunners. Also, Engineers (the Covies who do nothing but fix things, and would be the best for using Forerunner tech) only communicate with the Prophets.

Sounds good to me. It's like what I was trying to say but can't remember everything from the books.

I was thinking that the Brutes must hate the elites and other covanant. They must have had an easy job of protecting the Prophets the whole time even through Halo. Now that the covanant can't take out Earth as easy with just Elites, Jackles, Hunters, and Grunts. I would be pissed if I had to leave such an easy job for a combat one.

So far it seems that the only races that DONT hate each other are the Brutes and the Prophets, but we've only seen the thoughts of one Brute and one Prophet thus far, so we wont really know til the game comes out.

The Elites aren't jealous of the Brutes at all. There is a rank of Elite that is equal to a prophet (or minor prophet) so what would the Elite have to be jealous about?

Also Brutes don't guard the Prophets. High Elites do. Brutes just guard forerunner artifacts and temples.

I would want a Brute to guard me if I were a Prophet. It sounds backwards to me, but if its true. I never knew that, I am still reading The Fall of Reach.

Yeah. I've never read the books myself but my friends here have discussed all of this before with quotes from the book etc. I have read the quotes too and they all agreed that Brutes don't guard Prophets.

In the game, are the "Spec Ops Elites" just the elites with the plasma swords? If they are, I believe it, they can kill anything.

In Halo they were the black elites, you only ever saw them in later levels on Legendary I believe. The new renders for Halo 2 has the Spec Ops Elites being white, seems strange, but cool.

The grunts are weaklings most likely drafted into the army who look to the elites for protection and to the jackals as wussies. The elites are like field officers, there smart powerful and don't seem to REALLY hate anybody because there in control. Jackals think there better then they are but are really cowards (run up to a jackal and bash him) and think that they should "outrank" the elites. The Hunters seem to be specially bread and paired up because they always in pairs and receive special weapons. I haven't read the books (yet) so thats as far as I can tell from Halo. Also Hunters seem to stick up for grunts but not elites or jackals... wierd. O ya grunts like each other elites kind of compete with each other (most marines skulls win) hunters OF COURSE like each other and I can't seem to tell with jackals.

That's a Brute that can rip a hunter in two. It's a Prophet who's THINKING about how the Brute could do that

Hi everyone,

Just as a sort of side topic - why would the Prophets need to be guarded, and more importantly FROM WHO???.

I mean, the last couple of pages from first strike reveal that the high prophet was surrounded by at least a hundred high elites, let alone the thousands, if not millions, of other covenant foot soldiers on the planet at the same time.

I know what I say is sort of hazey, but anyone else get the feeling that maybe there are other races out there that dont particually like the covenant? why would such a Covenant high prophet need to be guarded by so many elites? it sounds like overkill to me....

No, it was the Brute that could rip a mighty hunter apart.

I guess it does seem like a lot, but you have to understand the society. The Prophets are seen as the ones closest to the Forerunner, who are the greatest beings to have ever lived, therefore the Prophets are the most important beings in the universe. Not only is such security there to ensure no possible mistake or threat to the Prophet, but also as propoganda, to show that he IS that important and that powerful.

And remember, that's not just any prophet in there, it was the HIghest of High Prophets (Dont remember the exact name), but that was the head honcho of alllll the Covies.

Probably just for show, but it is mentioned in "The Flood" that there had been som assasinations in the Covenant leadership. And it's possible that the Covenant will someday bite of more than they can chew.

I am well aware of the Covenant caste structure, but it still seems a little bit fishy to me.

Also, the Covenant definately indulge in overdoing things and flagrant grandiose.

but it still seems odd, that the planet that they were one would be so heavily guarded. Do you guys remember the part about how the planet was guarded so heavily that any ship that even orbited the wrong way would be instanly destroyed.

put it this way - do you think they would have so much security to protect themselves from the humans??? I dont think so.................so who does that leave?? the flood maybe?

I could be wrong........but its worth speculating about
