For those seeking technical forge help I am starting a series tomorrow on Common Forge Questions so remember to look out for that. I have gotten a lot of the same questions and it will probably be best to have a full compilation of all of them in one place. I will update the first post with a link to it when I start the index of them.

Until then here is Lesson 26. It is continuing the advertisement topic that many have asked me to write about. This is probably one of my most successful techniques that have helped me advertise all of my content... not just my maps and gametypes, but also these forge lessons, and my game/level design blog @ ReachingPerfection.com... the home of these lessons, game design/level design articles, my content, and soon to be my favorite content that I have found while playing customs with friends. If you really want to get in contact with me, that is probably the best place.

Anyways, here is the link and synopsis of Forge Lesson 26:

Lesson 26: Nurturing

* Nurturing in advertising is all about turning your fans from casual fans who download your content to hardcore fans that spread your content
* Taking the time to personally interact with a fan is the best way to get their attention and build your credibility with them
* Never let a fan slip by, always at least respond and acknowledge that you know they exist

I'm good friends with a known terrorist in the Middle East - Yu Bin Sneyepid -

Loving the lessons, however having the lesson in a vaccum lessons their impact a bit. I'd suggest including a screen shot demonstrating a particular concept in your lesson, say a turret emplacement for a Deterrent, or something similar. They could be anything from one of your maps, to an example used by Bungie in a past Halo game. You don't need a pic for every one, but it would definitely help, especially with the more abstract concepts.

I have been planning on rewriting these in the future and adding pictures to them. I didn't want to hold myself down and feel like I needed pictures because it would delay me releasing these. I have a tendency to stop something if I feel like it is too much work so instead I wanted to focus on getting the lessons written down and then going back and editing them.

for a second there, i was excited to see if some of my technical forge questions would be answered, but then i see this is just some bull-blam!- intangible opinion thread. and a LONG one.

Check out my Forge Handbook blog at http://forge-life.blogspot.com for everything you could possibly need to know about the technical aspect of using Forge 2.0.

The Guide is nearly complete, but there is always room for new submissions, so remember to check back.

There is a technical advice thread, it just keeps getting buried. However, I had to move the bulk of it to a blog page because it was too big to fit on Bungie.net.

While it may seem like opinionated intangible information. It is worth reading bro. It is one of the reasons why this is stickied and featured multiple times at Gamasutra.

Wow. These lessons are amazing! Thank you so much Godly for putting in the time to help all of us lesser designers with level design theory! I will be sure to keep tuned!

lol no problem sir Sotha. Anyways, here is lesson 27 as promised. I promise that it is still Sunday where I am. ;) Here is the synopsis and link peepz:

Lesson 27: Reputation

* Everything you do creates an image of yourself that people see when they hear your name
* Based on that image people may decide if they will check out your content or not
* Creating a name for yourself is important and can be done through joining communities and being a helpful loyal member

Okay, I have a question in regards to lession 27:

Which communities should I join?

I already am with the Forever Forgers group, but I could use some additional and more active groups/communities.

Thanks for all the help! I did a remake of an old 007 map "The Facility" Anyone who liked it should check it out. I made it before I read this though so all that can be played on it is Slayer since I didn't know how to set it up for other game types. Thanks again.

This is the THIRD time I've registered an account on Bungie.net, and I plan on remembering it this time.

Also, I have an Xbox Live gamertag, but I don't know if I'm allowed to tell you what it is, because I forgot the password, and all the credentials I put in. If anyone knows how to get it back, PM me.

For a second I thought this would be about Marathon, until I remembered that Halo also had Forge and that the newest Marathon editor is Weland.

Lesson 28 is up and running folks. Remember that you can find the original version of the post on my game/level design blog @ ReachingPerfection.com. There you will find that the lesson also has a little bit of commentary on what I'm working on content wise and you may be able to get in on some playtesting sessions if you comment over there. Here is the link and synopsis to the BNet version of Lesson 28:

Lesson 28: Perspective Direction

* In a heated situation players are always focused on something and learning the direction of their attention will help you design your map
* Imagining yourself in the player's shows will help you place objects and areas of interest to get the player's attention
* Remember that most games have a 3rd dimension and the direction of a player's eye on the vertical axis is just as important as the lateral axis

I'm sad to see that your section on getting maps noticed is over, but glad at the same time to see something new. Besides, i'd guess you'll revisit some previously mentioned subjects down the line at some point.

I hate to ask this again, but I still really need some tips on what communities/groups/sites to join, not just with maps, but for screenshots also.

I'll be doing a whole posts on ReachingPerfection fairly soon called Communities galore highlighting the best of the communities that I go to and the worst of each one as well and you can make a decision based on that bro. Keep an eye out over there.

And don't worry I will be throwing in advertising based lessons in the future I got the basis down and now I can add on to it whenever it feels like a good time to throw a new lesson down. I still have loads to write about and loads for you guys to read about though so keep on reading.

Yayz!

Can you link to that stuff when it's done/updated? The community galore and the other think you mentioned a page or 2/3 back, that is.

Looking forward to next lesson, as always. :)

Subject: Forge Lessons ***UPDATED*** Lesson 28 (10/6/10)

This thread inspired me to make a normal, slayer/objective map; you know, go back to the basics and free myself from all these stupid linear race tracks.
Also, have you done a leason about symetry of maps/gametypes yet?

CrazedMeatball.
