This is honestly the most useful forging guide/tips ever. I've been reading for a while, This needs a feature on the bungie front page. Honestly, guys take a look.

The reason why I stopped playing ranked was because of the booster/new accounts that were already higher up on their previous account. Too bad a new generation of sore losers had to ruin the skill gap in Halo 3.

Do people have to add the 2.0 at the end of it?

To be honest, I hate calling it that. But I am just going with the flow and the rest of the community. Also it helps differentiate the two games and denotes that I am specifically talking about reach.

As for everyone else thank you for your testimonials. Glad you are all enjoying them. And nick stop spamming the thread or I'll report you. :P

At that rate you won't be able to finish before reach is out though. Maybe try like one during each meal... one during breakfast, one during lunch, and one during dinner. That is like 3 a day and that will cover like 6-7 days... so maybe one during a midnight snack too lol... I do think I'm going to slow these down once I post Lesson 20 tomorrow... maybe like one every 3-4 days or so. Especially since when Reach comes out there will be much more things to blog about.

1 Corinthians 9:24-27
"Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? ... They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever. Therefore, I do not run like a man aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air. No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

Godly, coming from Forgineers I have more than one reason to thank and commend you, but I have to tell you that my appreciation for you shot up about 20,000 points when I realized that you were so dedicated to the art and design of the system.

You're a natural success for a reason. You know what you're looking for and really really care about the ideal. You've searched high and low for the answers, treking of to some Nepalian escapade to return to us and bestow upon us your mystical truthiness on all things forge. You love Halo. You love Mapmaking. And you are imbued with the essence of Creativity.

I read through about 4 of your lessons, and then decided to print them all out and staple them together. They are now residing upon the prized throne known as the top of my 360 for quick reference.

Keep the excellent tips coming. We're soooo close to perfection!!!

I must say I am very flattered by that testimony Calamity. That speaks worlds about me lol... I do appreciate the lessons and I am honored to have them printed out and sitting atop your xbox. Who knows maybe I will turn all of these into a book about level design for all designers in the world to purchase and enjoy? lol... and I am definitely adding this testimony to my favorites. Hopefully I can transfer lesson 7 soon.

I won't be forging for a while. I've never gotten into map design before. Which is funny, being in a group dedicated to it :P

Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer.

That way, you have a better shot on all of them.

Dude, these lessons are more powerful than Old Spice Odor Blocker Body Wash(yeah, it is.).

Seriously, awesome.

HEADS UP THREAD FOLLOWERS!!!

Just wanted to let you guys know that I just posted Lesson 7 and 8. I'm going to go work on 9 and 10 now. Here is the link and synopsis for the 7/8:

Lesson 7: Combat Congestion and Traffic

* Combat Congestion is tons of players traversing through one area causing massive chaos and confusion, taking away from the skill required
* Traffic is the analysis how players are spread out around the map
* Everything comes into play when learning to control the chaos, just like everything else in level design

Lesson 8: Eye Catching

* Eye catching is the power of attracting the human eye in order to change a player's perspective
* Eye catching has the power of not only changing a player's perspective but naturally gravitating players towards the attention grabbing area
* Attention grabbing techniques can be applied to incentives, deterrents, and important areas of the map

Enjoy... time to go right more threads til I hit that daily limit again... lol. ;)

Dancing with death is my specialty.

Godly, I have a few words for you.

As long as I have known you,(since AC4), you have always done your best to better the community of any game you have played and now with these lessons, the ENTIRE Halo community can benefit from a master at the art of forging. Not only will they benefit from the lessons but as they practice these principles they will begin to flourish and create even better maps than everyone before, so in a sense, you have just prolonged Reach indefinitely in my eyes.

Keep up the good work
Sincerely, EternalEnemy

No problem bro... I am more than happy to help the community make better maps and games for the WHOLE halo world to enjoy. Hopefully I succeed in my task lol.

And I haven't talked to you in ages Eternal. I am glad to have your support. And whether it is learning blade combat theory in Armored Core or map design theory in games I'm down and willing to share what I know. Thank you for your compliments old friend. Especially about the one about me prolonging Reach indefinitely... that is quite a statement. PHEW!

Speaking of more lessons... here is lesson 9 for your viewing pleasure... again synopsis and link:

Lesson 9: Perspective Variance

* Perspectives should not only be observed in individual instances but also as a batch/group of perspectives over time
* Perspective variance is observing the differences between perspectives over time
* Eye Catching and Path Manipulation are key players in observing and controlling perspective variance

Off to lesson 10... and good news for a lot of you. It is about spawns... ;) and quite an important lesson if you ask me. Stay tuned in the next 30 minutes or so.

lol you would derek. Well I shall take advantage of your post and let everyone know that I posted Lesson 10 already and I'm working on Lesson 11. I have a feeling the daily thread limit is going to cut me off soon though. Here is the usual synopsis and link:

Lesson 10: Spawn Perspectives

* The spawn perspective is the first fully controllable perspective that the player sees in a map
* All things in a spawn perspective need to be observed in order to predict all future perspectives
* Perfecting the spawn perspective can fully influence all following perspectives of the player, giving you huge control over the player

Very good info, nice to see someone looking deep into the way making a map works.
I plan to read these lessons a couple times, more information can never hurt the quality of your maps, and when it comes down to it, when you make a map that is truly successful, it's just that much more fun to play.

Immortal you are ridonculous... lol... anyways, here is the next lesson peepz. The second one that has to do with spawning... here is the synopsis and link for lesson 11:

Lesson 11: Smooth Spawning

* Decisions forced to be made during the first few seconds of spawning interfere with the initial spawn thought process and cause hiccups in gameplay
* It is important to remove anything that may change the player's perspective drastically
* Removing all interferences to the initial spawn thought process can smooth out and polish gameplay
