Great job on the lessons you have here.

I have a community site called www.fcmaps.net We have been around for 6 years supporting the Far Cry Editor.

We just added FORGE to the site since 2.0 is far superior to the original.

Anyhow, I have been posting a variety of tips for builders and we have a number of highly skilled mappers over there. If anyone is having trouble still, feel free to come and check us out because we can offer some good advice for making explosive maps.

My first attempt at using FORGE is published and on the BUNGIE servers.

It is called INFINIDEATH zE 1
Check it out. If you decide you like it, visit our site and expand your friends a bit.

If you guy don't mund I am going to link this thread to my site so people can come here and read the lessons.

Have a good day.

I ran into a problem:

I am making a map on the island in forge world. My plan is/was to have a large wall surround the island like in Isolation from halo 3 (Hated the game-play of it, but loved the visual theme)

Anyways, after using a ton of collosiusm walls, I only have 20 left, but they aren't high enough to give it a trapped in feel.

Any suggestions?

For you Jabberwock I suggest checking out the large brace or the large walkway piece. Large brace is under decorative and large walkway is under bridges and platforms. They are both longer than the wall coliseum. I think the large brace gives more of the feel that you are looking for that could create the same feel of isolation. But instead of pairing them together try seperating them and putting something in-between them like the wall coliseums or something similar. Putting one after the other will definitely help that feel. Also try pulling the large brace slightly inward more so it stands out as the taller piece. You also get the added touch of the curved part of the large brace which you can hook inwards at the top or outwards to give it a cool effect.

Are you referring to putting those pieces on top of the collisum walls, or replacing them with them?

Anyways, the file is on my fileshare as "Quarantine IN PROGRESS" if ya want to see what I mean more in depth.

This really helps out with the new people in forge.
Could come in handy if even I have a problem at a time.
I'll be adding some epic maps made be Me at sometime.

Yeah, me and many others suggested that already.

I'm under the impression that for every 1 map/screenshot that get's on bungie favorites or widespread notability, there are 10+ equally good ones that have no comments, likes, or tags.

Well good news to you both, today I start my advertising articles. You guys are going to love what is in store. Today is just a general overview and introduction into advertising and I will slowly be introducing new techniques to you over the next few weeks. Hopefully these lessons/tips are useful to you as much as they have been useful for me. ;)

I can't change my opinion, but I can change yours. My goal with an argument, is to make you change yours, not mine - I want to make you think.

These tips will really help the community. The long days to come will be good.

Thanks WingOfWar... for those who haven't seen the thread yet Lesson 24 is up and running. Advertising and getting your maps out there has been requested to be a lesson for quite some time so hopefully you guys enjoy the next few lessons that I will be writing to cover advertising techniques. Here is the synopsis and link:

Lesson 24: Advertising

* Advertising is a very important part of level design
* Advertising can be found everywhere and is used everywhere like in news channels, restaurants, websites, etc.
* The first rule to advertising is forgetting that you are advertising your content and to instead offer your services and stop being selfish

Check out my Forge Handbook blog at http://forge-life.blogspot.com for everything you could possibly need to know about the technical aspect of using Forge 2.0.

The Guide is nearly complete, but there is always room for new submissions, so remember to check back.

Hey, great stuff, definitely helped me get my maps done, especially the spawn theory.

I've also done some tutorial work and linked it back to you, the inspiration. My stuff focuses specifically on Forge 2.0 related issues, like spawning and object tagging. I keep seeing people ask questions that I've worked to answer, but I can't seem to get it noticed, and keep seeing the same questions everyday, so I need some help getting it noticed. It also might make a great supplement to your stuff, URL below.

http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=49470306

I do plan on incorporating step-by-steps for each game type and including a revised edition of Bungie's Required Objects Guide, with more pointed explanations, but I need more time for that.

This may have been answered. Don't have time to read 9 pages.

Anyways, I was editing a D-Day map. I wanted to spawn fusion cores in the air. I set the min/max equal so they would just keep spawning over and over. I love splosions.

However, after I let go of the fusion core, it hits the ground, explodes, and then spawns on the ground, rather than in the air.(I've done this in Halo 3 and it works)

What do? Suggestions?

Try placing a grid 90 degrees horizontal, arranging your fusion cores on it, then deleting the grid. I accidentally did that with a Banshee I wanted to spawn in the small bay of the island in Forge World. When I went to adjust the grid, put it too low, and it disappeared; the Banshee kept spawning right where I had first placed it and falling into the water and exploding in the depths. Same method from Halo 3, at least, in the later DLC. (You can use something other than the grid)

Just read it.

Though I will note you really didn't go into what we can do to get our stuff noticed, you just gave an overview. :p

I'm guessing you'll go into more detail later on? *hint hint*

PS: On a related note, anyone know of any good forging/screenshot groups I could join to help get my stuff out/just discuss the features of the theater/forge? I already belong to forever forgers, but I really haven't got any good advice and/or notice there.

I'll try that. I wasn't even thinking of doing it that way lol. Thanks for the help, bro-heem.

I hate Mlg.

I hope this gets noticed, but i really need help on making my infection map work with my game type.

I have all the red and blue spawns set to "inf_spawn" and yet my gametypes will not work with it! it says "this map is not compatible with this gametype" (or something along those lines...) .

Do you have a Safe Haven placed? Place a hill marker and tag it as a Safe Haven for the Human Team (I am currently unsure if you need one for the Zombies, but it would make sense to give them one to prevent spawn killing).

Do you have Initial Spawns placed, or is it just respawn points? You need Initial spawns if you have none.

Leave your Respawn Points (not initial spawns) as neutral and use an Anti Respawn Zone set to the zombie team to keep them from spawning in the base or whatever you have.

Don't tag your Spawn Points, tag the Spawn Zones and Spawn Areas (the latter being made with Hill Markers).

Inf_spawn isn't required, it just makes it so that Infection specific spawns don't show up in other game types.

Actually that is the plan Jabberwock. This was just an overview as I always start with. I will be covering more advanced advertising techniques over time the same way I have been doing with all my lessons. Give it time bro... don't worry. There is a lot behind advertising... I can't just cover it all in one lesson.

Anyways, Pugz I sent you a PM to help you fix your problem and Rykleos I sent you a msg about how to get mentored. And thank you silent assassin. My diligence only exists because people keep encouraging me to write more... lol. I don't know if I would have the motivation if people didn't want to keep reading them. ;) So keep up the encouragement. It does help ;).
