Warrior, ever thought that you are just worse than people you play?

Nope.

According to him, the skill level of the entire Halo population is a constant, and the only variable that seperates players are their internet connections.

Strawman argument. Quote me where I said that. Oh wait, you can't because I never did.

You refuse to admit you're worst than others and you know host is the perfect excuse to use as many can't argue with internet connection difficulties. Its almost impossible to counter, if you don't want to admit where your wrong than how can anybody ever help you?

What else can I say?
This is XbL, its fueled by internet which is not perfect.Host is something that dedicated servers could help but those I almost guarantee will never see a game like Halo.

If you are good you can win games on or off host, considering the host is reasonable and you actually have a chance.Which you should most of the time unless you live in a foreign country or have a bad internet connection. Those not the rest of the worlds problem, they're your problems.

The man with a hammer begins to see everything he encounters as a nail

I don't want to sound like I'm inadvertently taking sides, but internet connection is a major factor nonetheless. I have my 360 hooked up by RJ45 to a router, and I've never been able to snag a good connection quality, even though download speeds are through the roof (This is on a wi-fi comp on the same network) I wouldn't say I'm a great player on XBL, but somewhere near a third of the time when I lost, it was because bullets didn't register on people, and when they shot (and missed) they registered heaadshots.

Port forwarding and QoS settings never changed anything either. Time to change from comcast.

"Many 50s..."

Generalization with no proof.

"Unless of course foreigners pull yellow bar host or something over them."

Thankyou for proving my point that getting host over someone can cause someone to lose.

"I have a friend..."

No proof

What proof do you want me to give? Pull some random film clip out of my ass of 50's shots not registering on people?

Friend with bad connection
Bad connection
Not good connection
Absolutely horrible connection

You have no excuses. Just stop, you're making yourself look like an idiot.

A question for generals.

I have a film clip where I see a player in the camo tunnel on the pit. I start shooting first. I do not miss a shot. I perfectly hit him with 5 BR bursts and his shield does not drop, whereas he kills me with a 4 shot.

Who is the better player?

By your logic posted in this thread, my shots did not register because I am bad and jealous of level 50s.

Post that clip. I'd wager you probably thought you were hitting all your shots, but in reality, you were aiming too high, not compensating for strafe, not properly leading your shots, or the recpient of the inherent BR spread problems in Halo 3.

Or some combination of the above.

Of course it could have been one of those rare circumstances where XBL just refunded your bullets, but why complain about that issue when its an assumed risk by playing the game online?

If you want a fair test of skill where you cant blame everything on connection, play the game on LAN.

Strawman argument.

Actually it was intended as hyperbole but I guess you could construe it as a straw man.

+ 1 for actually knowing what that is.

I beat Aussies, Euro, and Japanese players on their host all the time. For the low level of skill it requires to get a 50, you can't blame connection. To consistently win on a 50 with a terrible connection is difficult, but it's not difficult to get a 50 even if you're laggy.

See Mat, and the other Aussies who inhabit this forum, alot of them have gotten yellow bar 50s.

You're just blaming your connection for why other players are beating you. It may play a factor, but unless you're being standby'd, it's completely possible to beat anyone on their host.

I'm sorry you suck, but stop blaming it on your poor internet. It may play a factor, but you don't need a WaRrIaH CoNnEcTiOn to get a 50, it's really not that hard.

OT: this is my current internet, warrior status.

I got my first 50 on 1 down, .25 up, playing on my neighbors wi-fi.

Wow. With that internet I don't see why you shouldn't get host every friggin game you play. That's wired High speed DSL from Verizon? If so, damn. Tops mine, for sure.

So you're saying... that I should raise my skill to compensate for the advantage given to others?

Hmmm so that means, I'll have two skill... and he has one plus his advantage... then we'll be equal!

Oh wait, no. Say I improve my skill .5 of a point. I am now "better" than my opponent, but his connection is worth 1, so he still wins. 2 to 1.5. Nope, the argument doesn't hold up because in cases of skill, connection and host still can beat an improvement in skill.

So really , my point is proven, once again. Host and connection gives you an advantage over others, and can compensate for your own lack of skill, and can allow you to beat those who are really better than you.

It's simple. I get 6 bullets back, you kill me in a sloppy 5 shot, when my a couple of my bursts don't count.

Counting beats non-counting every time. No matter how "good" I get, if my bullets don't count I can't win.

Response: WELL FIX YOUR CONNECTION

Well, really that's not a response. That's admitting that my skill isn't the only contributing factor, thus proving my point.

Thanks!

Oh god my host blows. I rarely pull it, maybe once a week, which is alot more than before.

I put everyone on the planet 5 bar. If I pull host over my friends from school, they're 5 bar, if I pull host over Aussies, they're 5 bar, etc.

I dunno what's wrong with it, but I've adapted to playing off-host.

Yeah, good connection doesn't always mean pulling host. I occasionally pull host, more often now than I used to, and it's good for everyone.

Render this film

You're not the only one who deals with it we ALL do. I have some crappy cable internet and can show you countless videos of lag and someone not dying when they should.

But it's stupid to GENERALIZE a group of people. You just have to adapt and DEAL with it.

BTW it's about QoS not upload/DL speed. The minimum for UL & DL are low.

Oh my god.

You're an idiot, you've got to be trolling there is no other way, you're pulling these formulas out of your ass and calling them facts.

Games can be lost because of host, but host is not a deciding factor because you can still win. You're trying to justify the fact you don't have a 50 with a lame excuse like connection.

Bye.

Well then what really constitutes a good connection? I've been stuck with this for years and always playing foreigners with excellent connection, which always was beyond me. QoS settings are maxed out on IP and MAC for my xbox (or pc when necessary), yet things never improve. I don't intend to hijack the topic so answer in pm if you can.

I respect you and your point. You make a fair one. The Internet is flawed, and we agree to play it the way it is. Lag and all. My point is precisely that. The Internet is flawed. The playing field is not even. Some are given an edge over others unfairly, and sometimes skill does not enter into the equation.

This is my point, I stick by it. I only wish that others would recognize this inherent truth and admit that the playing field is not even, and that sometimes you get an advantage over others because you get host. Those who get host consistently, consistently have an advantage over others, thereby making the path to high rank easier.

There are indeed choice and rare individuals who are masters of the game, who have the ability and will to overcome the worst lag and host advantage imaginable. I acknowledge them, I salute them, and I give them the kudos they deserve as far as the argument goes.

These are not, and cannot be the universal case however, and that is another point I wish to make.

Thankyou for your thoughtful and coherent contribution to the discussion.

kid.. obviously connection matters... no one cares if you beat foreigners on their host. Cool. Congrats. Yes, it happens, but when you play 50 high and aussies keep ARs with their host, you can't win.

The foreigners you play must be just awful.

I CANT GET A 50 GAME IS BORKED
YA WHEN REACH COME OUT IMMA BE ONYX!!!

Haha its funny when the generals get on here and have to defend their honor. I havent been able to get above a 45 and Yes, I think its because I have no teammates who are competent enough to play at my level, or they alraedy have their 50 and dont want to risk it. Regardless, the ranking in halo 3 is pathetic at best. so many garbage 50's. and honestly typholision your stats are no better than the account i use. And fancy that, I was ridiculously close to getting onyx. "trueskill" is the wrongword for this because honestly the game doesnt rely on skill. Its teamwork, Unless you're playing lonewolves. and fortunetly enough for most of you generals who have all this time to play 12000 games and bash people who cant boost to their 50s. I know real 50's. I meet very few who arent anything more than egotistical jackasses. So sorry. Reach will seperate that. Atleast reach you are credited for what you do on your own, and if your team carries you you get nothin but CREDITS FOR UR AMAZING GENERAL HELMET. You people make me sick. Real 50s dont say -blam!-. They know they are the best, and they dont need to say anything. Get over yourselves Please. The sad thing is most "Generals" are not all that cool in real life at all.
