Hi all, signed up yesterday, thought it was time to say high to the community. Its just a shame that i am having difficulties and need help on my first post.

I have spent the last few weeks getting into halo 3, and playing online and all was fine untill about 3 weeks ago. Basicly i am stuck at 22 XP and cant get any higher. I would understand if i was basicaly CR4P at the game but its not the case (in my opinion, although far from the best). About 3 weeks ago gameplay just went nuts. I can no longer kill anyone. This is not an understatement, i mean NOBODY, if i do kill anyone its because i have just finnished someone off that my team mate died for trying to kill first, an by luck a shot in the leg would kill him. I am matched up against people with 40 - 50 xp and they run circles round me while i have trouble turning 180° to see them.

I can understand being killed by someone with more XP and skill at the game but when people with 1, 2, 3 or 4 XP wipe the floor with me and run circles round me i am starting to wonder if there isn't something wrong somewhere. I have seen stickies bounce off of enemies, i see people disappear and reappear behind me. Spawned into full battle on many occasion.

Its getting to be quite boring, knowing before hand that i am going to be matched up against much higher ranked players and killed by noobs constantly, while i am running around at a slow pace.

Now i don't know if i have been hacked, if its my shiny new black xbox that has a fault or if its my connection, i can't believe that its simply down to bad game play on my behalf for 3 weeks solid, just stuck at the same level. Even luck would allow me to be good on a game every now and again, but its not the case.
My son, had this happen at level 15, hes now 36 and only 10 years old. He blows me away just watching him. He tried my account and even he had no chance what so ever, after half a dozen games he gave me the controller back saying, "its not normal, its like running in toffee, somebodies cheating".
Not that he knows anything about hacking and router switches.

So with all this frustration mounting up, halo reach for the moment is sounding like a doubtfull investment. We have halo wars, 3 and odst, and because of the way i am blocked and the game is no longer fun being used as a simple bullet magnet, i can't see the point in paying someone so that i can't have fun.

Like i said maybe connection or something else, so if there are any suggestions (not play better) that could help understand why i am stuck at 22 and can no longer kill i'd highly appreciate it. I only want to play and have fun. Not die and get frustrated.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. Whats worse is that i am making others loose their game (although i shouldn't need to, i highly appologise to you all) because i die constantly and kill rarely, which as a result frustrates them and then i get a mouthfull of insults because of it. I just don't get it.

So you heard I slayed a Balrog?

This seems a little unusual, though not entirely unbelievable. Halo 3 uses a Truskill matchmaking system anytime you use matchmaking (regardless of rank playlists: where you can see your truskill rating, or social: where the number is hidden). Truskill is a very good algorithm for calculating your skill relative to your opponents. In as little as three games it can have your skill pretty well nailed down. There is an issue, however, which you have run into. Players who are skilled at the game will create new gamertags just so they can re-enter the matchmaking system from the bottom and pick on newbies like yourself. There should be instances where you manage to avoid these players and everyone in your game should be on your level. It sounds like this isn't happening, so my question would be have you allowed your son, or anyone else for that matter, who is considerably more skilled than you to play a lot of matches on your gamertag? Their results could influence your matchmaking. The other possibility is there are just not enough players online when you play who are legitimately at your skill level. Don't be disenchanted though, there are many people who you could have your way with, they just aren't playing Halo 3 much anymore. The likelihood that you were "hacked" by someone is not entirely impossible but very improbable. Many issues you experience are probably network related. I would suggest if you want to have more fun with matchmaking that you play the Campaign on Heroic for a while which will give you the experience you need without frustrating you to no end. As for the issue of having fun in Halo: Reach, for the next half year there will be so many people online on Reach that there will be plenty of people for you to have fun playing with and against. The network issues you are probably experiencing with Halo 3 will also seem to work themselves out. I hope this was helpful.
