Think about it...shouldn't the 14.5x114mm round tear straight through there rotting flesh? Not just do no damage whatsoever?

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

That's exactly what it does, and why it doesn't work. Something about organs turned into liquid or something like that. Theres nothing to damage. (and flood patches the hole pretty fast)

EDIT: Guys at the universe forum can be more specific.

I have to say though, it really does add to the atmosphere; when you see the sniper shot go straight through without doing any damage whatsoever and the flood just keeps rushing toward you completely unfazed.

It's the same in Halo 2, except they increased the realism by allowing you to snipe the infection form inside, and make it count as a headshot.

Halo's sniper rifle was more of a dual purpose weapon. It(like the Barret .50BMG)also serves anti vehicle functions. To penetrate reliably it needs high velocity and a dense, non expanding core. It pretty much is nothing more than an icepick. While that works for beings with nervous and circulatory systems it doesn't work for the mass of dead tissue that comprises flood biology.

When the Flood infection forms transform a host, they change the basic DNA. Essentially, all the internal organs and whatnot are turned into a mushy substance, as they are no longer needed and decay. Really, the only things the Flood combat forms need are their legs, their arms, and the infection form inside. Therefore, if you shoot a bullet through a Flood combat form, you have to hit the infection form to do any damage. Whereas with a normal biological, you'd severely damage internal organs.

To be honest, it is disappointing you can snipe Flood in the bodies. It really detracts from the immersion.

Really ? Never knew that one. I thought the Flood headshot was limited to H-3. Well, ya learn something every day. In terms of CE, the Flood are not immune to sniper rounds. Have conducted tests. It definitely does some damage. Not a ton, but, it's there.

Since the body is so spongy and such, the bullet is unable to tear out anything more than what's in it's path. It just goes strait through them.
